Turkish Cypriots

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkish Cypriots

Postby Sotos » Tue Jan 17, 2006 7:42 pm

I read some articles that Greek and Turkish Cypriots have similar DNA. I also heard that Turkish Cypriots were Greek Cypriots that became Muslims when Cyprus was part of the Ottoman empire. Are Turkish Cypriots really Turkish?

it is true that there are stories about that. gcs that changed their faith and after the british came went to the bishop, and ask to return back to christianism. the bishop apparently kicked them out as traitors, effectively giving them no other choise from becoming part of the tc community. another great patriotic act of our history.

but i dont think that that represents the whole tc community re soto.
most propably the common dna comes from inter-communal sex throughout the centuries

"Intercommunal sex" was actually very limited. Christians went with Christians and Muslims with Muslims. Don't forget that society was extremely conservative at that time.

The very similar DNA is indeed because most Turkish Cypriots were Greek Cypriots that changed faith.

During the Ottoman rule of Cyprus Christians had to pay way more taxes than Muslims. In general Christians were treated as second class people and many had suffered.

This forced many of them to change religion and become Muslims. Most of them didn't even speak Turkish.

After the Ottomans left many of those Muslims changed their religion back to Christianity. The rest became known as "Turkish Cypriots".

Until the Turkish invasion most Turkish Cypriots still spoke Greek. For some of them Greek was still their main language.

Turkey realizing that she could not make the whole Cyprus Turkish since they had failed to force the whole population to change religion and a complete genocide of the whole Greek Cypriot population was not possible, the decided to pursue partition.

Apparently though they didn't want to simply trust the Turkish (former Greek) Cypriots alone to run the occupied part of Cyprus. For this reason they brought to Cyprus thousands of mainland Turks in an effort to destroy anything Cypriot and create a pure Turkish state in the north of Cyprus.

Do not forget that rape was very common in those days and turks often used to steal beautiful greek bribes (at least it used to happen in Bulgaria). The genes of TC maybe very similar to yours not because they were assimilated greeks, but because they transferred some of their genese to you against your will or stole some of your genes :-)

Personally, this discussion leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. In the 80s a professor in the University of Sofia in Bulgaria came up with the same "brilliant" idea that we were originally bulgarians who were forced into being turkish, and so the government decided to "restore" our "originial" identites "voluntarily". You can imagine what happened afterwards.

I wonder where this discussion is going to lead?
Are you trying to pursuade TCs that they were originally greek?

There was plenty of inter community sex after 20.000/40.000 Turkish soldiers and craftsman came to Cyprus in 1571 these men impregnated a lot of Greek Cypriot women to build up the Turkish Cypriot community that where the DNA match comes from. Its only natural that such a large number of male sperm donars impregnate the local female population dont forget they were more pagan times. So sorry to burst your bubble again Piratis but you to may have Anatolian Parasite blood in your veins, how much this may repulse.

The very similar DNA is indeed because most Turkish Cypriots were Greek Cypriots that changed faith.

I agree this must have contributed as well but was not the only reason why our DNAs are similar.

During the Ottoman rule of Cyprus Christians had to pay way more taxes than Muslims. In general Christians were treated as second class people and many had suffered.

Happened many many years ago in great empires Piratis get over it.

This forced many of them to change religion and become Muslims. Most of them didn't even speak Turkish.

That was GCs wanted to force TCs to speak Greek because they were to lazy or didnt want to learn Turkish. The population balance also encouraged the wider use of Greek so TCs had to learn the language to interact with GCs. If you go to the UK and everyone speaks english you learn the commonly used language.

If I said that then some TC would come to give me a lecture of how nice the Ottoman rule was in Cyprus and that GCs were not oppressed at all etc.

In any case the rapes are not related. Would the Ottoman rapist then marry the GC woman and raise the children? Those rapes probably are more related to the Ottoman looking Greek Cypriots than to Turkish Cypriots. (and if you take this a step further, Greek Cypriots might be more Turkish than Turkish Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots more Greek than Greek Cypriots ... but thats taking it too far ;) )

This is definitely not what I suggest. Everybody has the right to be whatever he wants as long as he doesn't violate the rights of others. If Turkish Cypriots want to be Turkish this is perfectly fine with me and not my business. I am just referring to the historical facts.

I said most, not all. A small part is from Ottomans.

intercommunal sex... somehow i like this term.
would you say that it was intercommunal sex that created the problem in the first case.... and most probably the only way to solve it.

Simple genetics would tell you that if this has been the case the DNA of Turkish Cypriots would not be closer to the one of Greek Cypriots than the one of mainland Turks.

So sorry to burst your bubble again Piratis but you to may have Anatolian Parasite blood in your veins, how much this may repulse.

I may also have Egyptian, Persian, French, British and any other kind of blood, and I have no problem with it since I do not pretend to be anything different or more special that any other Cypriot.

Turkish soldiers were always horny. They even used the boys when there were no women around

Anyway joking aside ... Raping was a common procedure in medieval times with most invading armies. Not only the turks did it, in fact as recently as 1910 if you read the carnegie report you will see how common it was during the Balkan wars but this time it was done by greeks, bulgarians and serbians.
