And a side question: How many languages can you speak and write reasonably?

My native is Russian. I can read, write, and speak in English. I used to know some German, but that was about 10 years ago and now I've have only enough of it to understand a porno movie. I also can speak a few words of Greek and can understand some too. Not enough to communicate properly though. As many other people, I can say a couple of random phrases (mostly swearing) in a dozen or so languages. That's about it. ;)

I'm bilingual English-French. Can read German and just about make myself understood, but I don't pretend to write it and I have a similar knowledge of Greek but am lacking more in vocabulary. Did 2 years of Russian and 5 years of Latin at school. Have smatterings of Italian and Spanish, just sufficient to get by. Can understand Lallans but am not good at speaking it. A few words of Arabic (not reading/writing) and of Bahasa Malaya. Δεν καταλαβαίνω τίποτα !

I also know some Turkish swear words like everybody else.

its like spanish, french and italian.. many similarities but also huge differences.
Danes seems to understand swedish better than vice versa. Norwegian is closer to Danish I guess, at least in the written language.
