Swedish ambassador talks of EU involvement in Cyprus

03.JUL.09

Ambassador of Sweden to Cyprus Ingemar Lindahl, whose country took over the EU presidency on July 1 said yesterday that the EU will have a big post-settlement role in Cyprus, reports CNA.

Lindahl said both sides in Cyprus are open to “an appropriate EU involvement” in efforts to solve the Cyprus problem and the EU has to try to assist with its expertise, something it has already done to some extent.

He added that clearly the process for a Cyprus settlement is a Cypriot process within the framework of the good offices of the UN Secretary General

When asked if there should be EU guarantees in case of a settlement, Lindahl said that the fact that Cyprus is a member of the EU is a guarantee.

Asked about the opening of more negotiating chapters with Turkey during the Swedish Presidency, the ambassador said there are three chapters that could open during his country’s presidency: Social Policy, Environment and Competition.

“We hope to be able to open a couple of chapters during the Fall,” he said, pointing out that Turkey had to prepare certain legislations.

“We will try to open all three, if possible. But it depends. It might be only one. We will see,”

VP, are you that thick? The EU has a significant amount of economic and legal control over the ROC. The Government of Cyprus has to adhere to EU law and directives. The days of task force and invasion are over, stop living in the past.

SO you feel that is enough to stop extremists from rioting or killing TCs? planting bombs? the EU cant even have a nose bleed without 60 meetings on the subject...they are useless in times of crisis, all talk no action. The GCs would have a field day in discriminating and threatening us in all walks of life...words are not enough they are soon forgotten when the shit hits the fan without plenty of safeguards and guarantees you can forget unification...we will not capitulate to GCs demands.

Why does Viewpoint think the EU as Guarantor, would be there to protect him?

Judging from history, once the Turks are kicked out, it is the GCs who will need/deserve EU protection from the nasty Turks, and any strays they leave behind ....

So, don't worry VP ... you will have to buckle down and become obedient before the Law or the EU will sort you out for us!

Reh Jackass VP,

The last time I looked it was those Green Goat friends of yours, the murdering fanatics you admire so much and the thugs of the Tnucland regime who were doing the murdering in front of the world's press when your friends killed our brothers Issac and Solomos (may they rest in peace).

Re Bastardo Bill...

Plenty of evidence that matters can flare up and that guarantees are needed in times of crisis...there is no trust I do not deny you a guarantor why do you deny me? obviously you have bad intentions as you want them clearly out of the way so that you cant operate and manipulate things in favor of GCs.
