I came across the following web site set up by disgruntled British property buyers in the north:

they should never have tried to buy stolen land in the first place.. people who buy stolen property because its cheaper should get whats coming to them... fair enough if its legal why not the brits should have their place in the sun but this is good warn them away from such deals.. good thing they where scammed so they are put off

You'd better off asking the northern land scammers for the answer to that one. I wonder how the "developers" are doing?

Economic crisis has hit everyone, but the Brits seem to be happy enough, when do you predict the first arrests will take place?
