Recently we were on holiday in Cyprus, staying in Paphos. We spent an overnight in Kyrenia to do some touring. We tried to make a phonecall back to our hotel in Paphos so they didn't worry when we didn't return for the night. Guess what, the hotel clerk in Kyrenia couldn't or wouldn't tell us how to call the hotel in Paphos, i.e. the dialling code. We had the number of our hotel in Paphos, but didn't know the dialling code. They transferred us to directory enquiries, which turned out to be in Turkey. They couldn't help us and put us through to a German answering machine! It seems to me a very bizarre thing that you can't call from one side of the island to the other, or that there is a dialling code which appears to be top secret! We couldn't even find it after searching on Google.
Clearly the Turkish occupation is a highly contentious matter of which I have no expertise. However isn't this a crazy situation to experience as a tourist in Cyprus???
