Aftermath of Turkish Cypriot car attacks

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Aftermath of Turkish Cypriot car attacks

Postby utu » Sun Jan 18, 2009 11:54 pm

Just as a matter of morbid interest, any folk here support what that gang did in Nicosia - where several vehicles were attacked because they had Turkish Cypriot license plates? According to the Famagusta Gazette, one of the cars was occupied at a stop light, so I can imagine the terror the occupants endured.

What aftermath do you want? Another Turkish invasion that kills 10000 Cypriots because 2 of heir cars were damaged? if you think about it that would have been more of an excuse than their invasion of 1571 and their invasion of 1974! In those years not even their cars were damaged and they still invaded us!

No we do not support such atrocious behaviour by bloody hooligans. The police ought to find the culprits and prosecute the bastards.

Of course nobody would advocate such conduct (look how patient we have been for so long) ... it is only mindless football hooligans who are easy to provoke, fuelled on by adrenalin from the competitiveness of the stupid game.

However, I for one think Turk-TCs should not be allowed into the free areas - so readily - until they are prepared to relinquish occupation of the north. We have enough reminders of the harm they have caused us without having them parade their "freedom", to come and go, shopping, wining and dining etc., as though everything is hunky-dory .....

The fact is they are as citizens of the island. Once they are allowed, they have the right to be safe in the EU. True or false?

The fact remains that this type of incident will do nothing to foster any spirit of reconciliation. The folk north of the Green line will simply point their fingers and say "this is what is in store for the rest of us"...

The family whose car was attacked at the trafic lights got help from other passers by. They were helped to go to the police and give statements. The attacks were barbaric and there are no ifs and buts about them.

Do I have a right to think that the haters chose the Greekest looking Turk(s) to start the altercations, or am I just being a VP?

Since speaking to a couple of very good GC friends who was at the stadium on Saturday night and went to their homes with loads of bruises that evening,i learned few disturbing facts which is not pronounced elsewhere.

After the game,a large group of Omonia supporters (AKEL members) and some TC's having coffee at the stadium cafeteria waiting for the crowd to disperse outside was attacked by at least one hundred fully equipped riot police and beaten up badly with truncheons.
According to my friends, their excuse was that earlier someone from the Omonia supporters crowd threw a plastic cup of water over a policeman..

Now,if the ROC police is capable of mobilizing large groups of fully kitted riot police in short time, one wonders why they are not taking any action against these thugs attacking innocent civilians at the same spot after every APOEL game.

According to my friends, there are elements within the ROC police force who happen to be under the influence of the right wing opposition parties and they are in a silent war with AKEL administration who is rocking their boat.

Apparently, some time ago AKEL administration has started a "clean up" process within the police force to weed out crooked and politically motivated cops and this is has caused a stir within the force, specially after the arrest of some high ranking cops over Al Capone Kittas case. So,they are trying to show AKEL administration what they are capable of.(politically)

I was at the match and I gotta say, we had no idea any of this was going on over on our side, could have been in 2 different stadiums. I found out about all this when I got home and a relative who was in the omonoia stand told me what happened. There is an element of truth that this is a consequence of the cleanup going on right now. I am a little surprised that they only just realised after 6 years in power that the police need a cleanup......If they don't get rid of that incompetent bufoon the Chief of Police and his incompetent brother in the national guard then they won't be doing anything.
