Bad tempers in Cyprus.

Postby connor » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:09 am

Anyone else noticed how quickly the locals tempers can flare up over seemingly trivial things ?

Must admit that when the temperature and humidity is high i find myself feeling irritable and somewhat touchy.

A friend spent some time working in an even hotter country somewhere in the middle east and found that for a good percentage of the time he was bad tempered and snappy. A general grump in fact. And he was a vicar running his own parish...!

He said that someone there advised that he take salt tablets regularly and he found that by doing so those grumpy tendancies eased.

Not sure if that product or something similar is available in Cyprus.....

Anyone any knowledge on that score...?

Low potassium = irritability and anxiety.
Salt tablets = potassium and sodium
Potassium good. Sodium bad = salt tablets not so good
Spinach, parsley, lettuce, broccoli, peas, lima beans, tomatoes, potatoes, especially the skins, oranges and other bananas, apples, avocados, raisins, and apricots, particularly dried. Whole grains, wheat germ, seeds, and nuts fish, salmon, sardines = potassium

I have never noticed it to be honest, I see it more with tourists who are probably not used to the climate or pace of life.

There are also a number of electrolyte drinks on the market, that re-hydrate. Powders are widely available in Cyprus over the counter in chemists, just mix with water.

It is unseasonably hot and people are going crazy:

Last week a guy in Paphos went round driving into cars and temporarily escaped arrest even when the Police opened fire.

Thursday, we had the guy in Polis kill a dog owner and his dog by running them over, as he did not approve of dogs being on the beach.

Yesterday, a British tourist rammed his rental car into two others, then drove it into the wall of a house.

...and have you seen how people are driving this week, there brains are in planet zog!

Swap with me, please Lana! Midwinter here, cold and horrible (New Zealand). I'll swelter under the grapevines, drink ouzo and be hot anytime!

It is over 30C every day here, hotter in Nicosia; residents have no wish to sunbathe, so we stay indoors and survive. The pool is too hot to be refreshing, read a book and you fall asleep, watch Wimbledon and you fall asleep, go onto the net and you fall asleep..well you get the picture!

Do not be miserable, you are 2-1 up in the ODI series against England :-)

Lana PS Off to Wimbledon for the Finals weekend!

Enjoy Wimbledon! I have been in Greece many times in the hot summer, buy you're right, only for pleasure! Still, when its cold, its nice to dream. I'm not really into cricket, and definitely not into that so-called mud wrestling activity called rugby. I love soccer.
