BAD LAWYERES....

Postby Oneness » Mon May 12, 2008 4:52 pm

Hello, Well, theyre not all bad. But we read a lot these days about bad developers - dishonest, indifferent or just plain unreliable - and I'd like to know if anyone here has had similar experience of lawyers in Cyprus.

We know well they are expensive but did you ever pay hundreds or more and get very little in return???

Perhaps you suspect some clients are being treated better than others? For example, I just read Conor's post today about how a lawyer who used to represent him and was later representing his opposition on the case. Sounds familiar?

I am training to be a lawyer and I think that much of the criticism we get is unfair. 99% do a very good job; you will always get a few bad applies. I could go through every profession and pick out horror stories.

In my humble opinion i think that the client rightfully expects their lawyer to give them 'expert advice' and to work in the clients interest. Not experienced much of that either in the UK or Cyprus.

PS. before anyone gets on their high horse, i'm not talking cheap lawyers. I quote for a service and my clients get expert advice and a follow up service free of charge if something goes wrong with my work.
Name me a lawyer who does that

I totally agree Simon ... it's loathsome when individuals pick on groups of people to bash a nation refusing to acknowledge everyone is the same wherever you go.

I was hoping to show "oneness" that things are no different back in the UK before they went down the road of specifically beating up Cypriot Lawyers ....

Out of interest Simon, where are you doing your law degree, what will be your specialism and where are you planning to practice?

The Estate Agent I used when purchasing property in Cyprus recommended a lawyer for which I paid CYP£1200.00. The lawyer promised that I would receive regular updates on the building work (off plan), photos of the various stages, and so on. NEVER, did the lawyer or a colleague from this 'highly recommended firm' do any of the above without my constant prompting, bordering on begging for information.

My Cypriot neighbour was kind enough to keep me in the picture regarding the development.

The lawyer has been totally useless and I subsequently found out that he was related to a salesman working for the Agents. I am not inferring a scam, but when I pay £1200 I expect something in return.

My neighbour was more deserving.

And before I get berated for my comments, I am well aware other countries have dodgy legal eagles, Spain being a major contender.
