Quality of posts - Warning

Postby Admin » Wed May 23, 2007 12:09 pm

Hello,

This appears to be one of those times that the quality of posts slides to a very low level.

Again we have threads created for discussing other forum members in a negative way, threads that have pages of very little more than abuse exchange and topics created for the sole purpose of reproducing propaganda.

Usually I prefer to intervene as little as possible in the hopes that the members will regulate themselves. Surely you can all see that those kind of messages reduce the quality of our forum and possibly put off members that have a genuine desire to use this section of our forum for the purpose it was created.

The purpose of this section is summarized in the description shown on the home page. Cyprus Problem How can we solve it? (keep it civilized). This forum should be used when you are interested not only in letting others know what you believe but also for listening to what others have to say and be willing to change some of your ideas.

If you believe you know the absolute truth and you want to educate people about it by making lectures instead of debating specific issues then get your own website and do it there. A good way to do that is to get your own freely available web log (blog) which unlike a forum offers mostly a one way communication but still allows other people to make comments on your articles if they wish.

Thanks

Hi TC

To be fair, only I (and Admin) Moderate the CyProb Section that Admin's post refers to.

No wonder! What a pointless exercise this is. The admins post seems to appease people like Piratis. Maybe it was written by him by Piratis as well. That would not surprise me. That post in itself is imflammatory..

I agree wholeheartedly with what admin is saying. However, in all fairness an important point of discussions is being overlooked. When the other party unjustly and persistently calls contents of your posts "lies" (due to their own ignorance) and starts to turn the whole debate into a big disagreement, I would find it very difficult not to quote the truth from reliable sources to prove the validity of my argument!

If you check my posts, you will see that they are well supported by media quotes and historic facts,as a response to sarcastic comments made by some members "to go and read some foreign news"?

I am sure you will agree that such quotes had put a stop to many such views and hopefully helped some see things from the other side's perspective, which can only be a good thing. :)

As for other TC friends who have responded above, I ask them to keep their cool and deal with the debates as requested by the admin. Admin is not addressing just TCs but everyone, so lets not jump to conclusions!

By the way I reluctantly replaced my current flag in my signature line after being reminded by the admin (rightly) that no images are allowed in the signature-line, which was in the written rules before I put the flag. The nearest is the Turkish one since there is no TRNC flag available in the avatars section, hence I'll use that one. :D

Piratis wrote:First of all I have to make something very clear:

I believe that we should leave the past behind, we should forgive each other, stop all illegalities and move ahead with a united democratic country without racist discriminations and with respect to the human rights of all Cypriots.

Unfortunately I notice that there some people that insist on using a tiny and selective part of the past as an excuse for the continuation of illegalities and their demand for a "solution" that will be based on racist discrimination of people based on their ethnic background (which is something that exists in no democratic country in the world)

To those people Greek Cypriots deserved the violations of their human rights for the last 32 years and they deserve to be convicted for eternal violation of their human rights in a country that discriminates against them because of their race.

The fact is however that Turks in Cyprus have committed 100 times more crimes against Greek Cypriots than the other way around.

Greek Cypriots have been the majority on the island of Cyprus for 3000+ years. Their interaction with Turks starts in the 15th century, were the Turks attacked our island. This also answers the question "Who started it" for anybody that thinks that this is important:

Throughout the period of Venetian rule, Ottoman Turks raided and attacked at will. In 1489, the first year of Venetian control, Turks attacked the Karpas Peninsula, pillaging and taking captives to be sold into slavery. In 1539 the Turkish fleet attacked and destroyed Limassol. Fearing the ever-expanding Ottoman Empire, the Venetians had fortified Famagusta, Nicosia, and Kyrenia, but most other cities were easy prey.

In the summer of 1570, the Turks struck again, but this time with a full-scale invasion rather than a raid. About 60,000 troops, including cavalry and artillery, under the command of Lala Mustafa Pasha landed unopposed near Limassol on July 2, 1570, and laid siege to Nicosia. In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted. Word of the massacre spread, and a few days later Mustafa took Kyrenia without having to fire a shot. Famagusta, however, resisted and put up a heroic defense that lasted from September 1570 until August 1571.

So now it is clear how the interaction of Turks with Greek Cypriots started in Cyprus, and the question "Who started it" is answered as well.

What followed were 300 years of Ottoman rule in Cyprus. During these 3 centuries Greek Cypriots were oppressed second category citizens. They had to pay multiple times the taxes of muslims and their testimony in courts was not accepted. Whenever they tried to revolt against their oppressors they were slaughtered.

So here we have a period were Turks were oppressing and killing Greeks in Cyprus. The result of this period was 300 years of oppression against GCs and 10s of thousands of Greek Cypriots dead.

The next "round" of conflict between the two communities was at the end of the British rule in Cyprus, and then from 63 to 68. During this period extremists from both sides were committing crimes and atrocities.

This is the only period that TCs remember, but even here they remember only their own casualties and not the crimes that they had committed against GCs.

So this is a period were both sides had about an equal number of casualties, some 100s for each side.

Then in 1974 the illegal coupists overthrow our president and Turkey found the excuse to invade Cyprus. No TC was killed by the coupists before the invasion had started, but only after.
The result of the coup/invasion was 6000 GCs dead and 200.000 GCs ethnically cleansed. On the other side the TCs had only a couple of 100s of victims.

The next period is the 32 years of illegal occupation and insistence from Turkey to violate international law and human rights. This continues until today.

Conclusion:
1) The Turks "started it" in the 15th century
2) The Turks have committed much much more crimes against Greek Cypriots.
3) The Turks insist on their crimes today
4) Greek Cypriots have committed crimes as well, but only a tiny fraction of the crimes that the Turks have committed.

Still, Greek Cypriots are more than willing to put all these behind as long as we are not provoked by people that remember only the 1% of history that suits that in order to prove that Greek Cypriots are the evil people that deserve even more crimes against them.

Therefore I ask from people on this forum to either:

1) Leave the past behind. Do not try to excuse crimes and illegalities in 2006 with events that happened in the past. Concentrate on how we can find a solution that will respect all Cypriots equally without racist discriminations and human right violations.

Or, if doing (1) is impossible for you then at least:

2) If you believe that the past should be used to determine who is the "good" and who is the "bad" one and that this should be the basis of solving the Cyprus problem (instead of democracy, human rights and legality, that I propose) then at least use the whole history and not the tiny bits that suit you.

If that isn't propaganda then I don't know what is!!!!!!!

He copy and pastes this all over the forum, and all this coming from a MODERATOR :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?:

You should first get rid of people like this who are abusing the forum by advertising their agenda and smearing s*** in the TCs faces before you expect people to take this forum seriously and have civilized conversations!

Of all people I think you have one hell of a nerve to post this. I’ve lost count how many times you’ve been rude to numerous people by telling them they’re stupid etc, in ever more creative ways, from day one of joining this forum.

On top of that most of your “supporting” links are GARBAGE by our standards and totally unacceptable as explained to you time and time again by more than one member.

Recently, you even had the audacity to tell someone that you should teach him English even though your whole paragraph looked like a primary English teacher’s nightmare!

When somebody first joins a forum they start with near-zero credibility because they have to gradually EARN IT, but in your unique case you’re going bloody backwards… so what gives BigOz???

That may be but you will always be a big ZERO! Look how you have reacted to a perfectly reasonable reply I had above! But it just proves to mods and admins of this forum who the idiots and agent provocateurs are!

My English is excellent, the errors are typo errors because I rush. If I was not in a hurry I would use the spell checker and correct it anyway -- so your stupid accusation has no merit. You are an exceptionally stupid man!

You call my quotes a garbage - now I believe you are blind as well as stupid! You see you throw the first salvo of insults and go crying to mods when you get a response in kind. From day one, I only responded to insults thrown in my direction - was you expecting some kind of gratitude for insults?

Stop making stupid remarks about the others knowledge of English or their qualifications when you know F all about them before I really show you up! Contrary to your claims, many people in this forum know of who I am and what academic qualifications I hold - you just stick to be a stand up comedian and allow men continue with their discussions!

By the way - my links quote genuine sources such as German, British, American, Greek Cypriot newspapers, and BBC, AP or ABS News with dates and links. I try never to quote anything from a Turkish site or news media. NONE of your mates or any member has been able to disprove the authenticity or validity of these links. No one had the balls to show the contrary - you can only express biased opinions with nothing to back it up. There is a better name in my vocabulary for your kind...
