The topic (as so often these days) appears to be how terrible the Brits are...

Personally I'm fed-up with the bile and hatred towards the Brits spewed by Oracle and others. I'd imagine many potential new members are put off by it too.

I'm outta here...

Upset I turned down your personal invitation to join your "Pub" forum, huh!

Seriously, there is nothing anti-Brit in any of my views. Behind this thread lies a massive campaign (yes, by a Brit) to discredit the whole of Cyprus and its people, and I am the one accused of being "anti" by other Brits.

A case of massive superiority complex by the Colonialist-minded Brits living in Cyprus and expecting fine and special Imperialist treatment from the peasant natives. :D

I doubt very much Coner's intentions were to discredit the whole of Cyprus. I think that this case has highlighted the problems associated with buying in Cyprus, in particular a legal system which is outdated and provides little safeguards, not to mention one that is so evidently discriminatory.

This whole saga could have been prevented with a simple common sense approach. It need never have entered the attention of the world's media and caused so much damage to Cyprus's reputation and heartache to this family.

What was wrong with simply asking the builder to return the £100.000 paid by Coner? As the builder had resold the property he stood to lose no money. One could also ask why Conner was forced to take out a private criminal case for the assault and as yet unheard, the unlawful selling of his house.

No one involved in this case will be a winner. The damage to the Cypriot property market, when added to the already negative reports of the deeds scandals and remortgaging will do untold damage to the construction, estate agencies, legal profession, furnishings and leisure industry. This further frivolous, unprofessional, sour-grapes, we must have revenge approach, in taking Coner to court, rather than doing something constructive will make Cyprus look as though she is a third world country with a despotic regime and a country which is no way ready for democracy, justice and equality.

Perhaps if we are looking at the reasons why this particular case got so out of hand, the first place would be to examine why the justice system was so inadequate in providing solutions to what began as a very common conveyancing problem?

Oh, happy days ... the two weeks I was banned and I took up your kind offer :D

But, I was referring to your more recent one:

Nothing personal, my dear; I'm just not familiar/comfortable with the "pub" culture/mentality. :D

(Still, it's another plug for your "pub" )

The Brits started it a few months ago when the Cyprus Mail modified their website and allowed reader comments which made many of your compatriots lash out at Cyprus! These days hardly a story gets posted there without Cyprus copping dozens of hate mails from Brits, so our anti-Brit response on the CF is the reaction to that!

You’ve been long enough here (4 years?) to recall what it was like in the past here… this situation did not exist!

Those expats who think it’s a good idea to go on a defamation campaign against the country they’ve decided to call home had better think again because all they’ll achieve is the birth of the Cypriot national front and the beginning of the end of their stay on the island!
