"Yeni Duzen" article about a genetics research.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

"Yeni Duzen" article about a genetics research.

Postby Kifeas » Tue Aug 30, 2005 10:43 am

“Politis” GC newspaper today (30/08/05) provides a very short news piece of an article that was published in yesterdays “Yeni Duzen” TC newspaper, regarding a research by a Turkish genetics engineer, Erol Baisal, who claims that he contacted a research about 15 years ago and found that the DNA genes of GCs and TCs are very close, almost identical between them and certainly much more close than the corresponding genes of the mainland Greeks and Turks. He also mentions that he presented this research to Mr. Rauf Denktash and Mr. Eroglou who conveniently locked it into their drawers and asked the scientist not say anything about it.

Does anyone have read this article from Yeni Duzen and could possibly give us some more insight as to what has been written?

So? what are you getting at? if our genes are similar we should live happily ever after, far from it we have the same stubborness that will ensure we continue going in different directions.

Kifeas,I will try to find that article in Yeni Duzen via their webpage and report back. Thanks for raising it,it proves my argument that we are the one and the same people pushed apart by language and religion, both manmade.

Viewpoint, please don't be so negative, gardash, keep an open mind.
You never know, this might be a small step towards better trust and understanding between us Cypriots. If we use our common trait of Stubborness (and you are spot on about that) to keep looking for similarities not differences,we might get somewhere before we all die of old age :D

Although your optimism maybe be refreshing experience and even our recent history confirms again and again how different we are even if our genes are similar. We need actions now if we are to build trust and understanding but the GCs have seen that world opinion swang against them before and after the referendum they have to wait and work hard to persuade the international community that what they want is right and what we want is totally wrong and against international law and human rights.

What is your problem?
According to your father Rauf Denktash, you are not a Cypriot.
Only the donkeys are Cypriots!

Ideologically you are not a Cypriot. Ideologically you can never become a Cypriot. Ideologically you are a Turk born in Cyprus who has also taken an oath on kemal Atatürk’s grave to work all your life in order to achieve Taxim and make north Cyprus a part of Turkey or a purely separate independed Turkish state.

Your ideology makes you an enemy of the true Cypriots. You are an instrument of the Turkish deep state establishment that aspires to maintain Cyprus as its military back yard and perpetuate to eternity its military domination on Cyprus, for strategic reasons.

You are no different than those few GCs that still aspire union of Cyprus with Greece. Both of you are two sides of the same coin and both of you are enemies of Cyprus and the true Cypriots. You are a fake Cypriot!

Okey,I have the article in front of me,Kifeas.

A study carried out in 1990 examined the blood samples of 116 TCs,303GCs,235 Mainland Turks and 174 mainland Greeks. This was done in the USA by DrErol Baysal under the supervision of Professor Huisman (an American) and with contributions of English, turkish,Cypriot and Greek scientists.

The result showed that DNA genes of the TCS and GCs were not as close as expected to their respective "motherlands"Turkey and Greece, but belonged to the same Cypriot gene pool which was not similar to any gene pool in the region.
"This was normal and expected," said Dr Baysal," and could be explained by the fact that Cyprus was an island community".

This study was published in "the British Journal of Haematology" in 1992.
Dr Erol Baysal is a DNA expert with similar studies in many parts of the world including Europe,Asia,Middle East,Far East,North Africa, and the USA.

He was born in Nicosia in 1960,studied in England and America, and was once the head of DNA section of the biggest Thalasemmy centre in the USA.

More crocodile tears viewpoint?
Viewpoint says that we need actions now if we are to build trust and understanding. Look who is talking!

Trust is exactly what you do not want to see happening in this country Viewpoint, because it doesn't help the cause you are serving! What you are just doing is exactly what a pyromaniac arsonist does. First you secretly put the forest on fire and then you go around the village shouting that the forest is on fire!

Are you well Kifeas? or are you having mental problems??

I am just as, maybe even more Cypriot than you, you have no right to condemn me to the contrary which only reveals your extremist tendancies. You know nothing about me and you do not care to challenge yourself to go outside of your own blinkered vision to try and understand that there are many viewpoints which are not the same as yours these do not make others less or more Cypriot.
Reality Kifeas will hit you sooner or later, just wait and keep waiting for your ideologies to develop, you have your life time to wait.

Birkibrisli, thanks for providing a translation of this article. I just got the chance to get a translation by Brother in the other forum, which I also just read.

The GC thesis has always been that the majority of TCs are from the same stock of Cypriot people that pre-existed the Ottoman Empire and which has adopted the Moslem faith, mainly to avoid the heavy taxations that were imposed on the Christian population by the Ottomans. It is no wonder that entire villages, especially in the Pafos area and not only, used to speak only Greek even up to 1974 and simultaneously very few if none of them knew Turkish, even though the time the Ottomans left Cyprus is not too far back in time. What do you think about these GC claims?

Do you have an explanation as to why Denktash had chosen to hide this research when it was presented to him back in 1990?

What ideologies and green horses are you talking about?
You have proven time and time again in this forum that you regard only the north of Cyprus as your home country. You have proven time and time again that you regard only the TCs as your compatriots. You have proven time and time again that you despise, dislike, resent and even hate the 82% of the Cypriots. You have proven time and time again that you consider more kin to you the mainland Turkish people than the 82% of Cypriots.

How can someone claim to be a Cypriot if they consider only the north 35% of Cyprus as their country, they consider the 82% of Cypriots not to be their compatriots, they consider that the 82% of Cypriots should not have human rights in the 35% of the north Cyprus and that their properties do not belong to them, nor they should have the right to exist physically and politically in that part of their country?
