DMS007....There is no shame in being brown. There is no shame in doing a low level job and earning a living. I would NEVER hold that against someone. In cyprus, the Cypriots may think like that, and they may be snobby towards people because of their colour or social status, but that is not how I am , and that is not what my problem is. If you have percieved it that way, then you are very mistaken. I have had relationships with Asian women. I have good friends who are black and Asian. Some of my Asian friends do not look much different in colour from Cypriots. My problem is with large sections of the British public who don't care to tell the difference between one ethnic minority and another. If you have brown skin, that's it, you are the bad guy! You are the terrorist, you are stealing the jobs. You are not welcome!etc. You are stereotyped from the very beginning all because you have dark skin, and they percieve us (in the UK) to be all those things, even though we are not those things. How can you think this is fair! How can you think it's racist to want to be Greek and proud of it! They can call me all the names in the world if they want and hate me for being Greek...that's fine, but hate me for being a Greek, not for being an Asian, at least then it's fair! I'm stereotyped and patronised and treated badly for being something that I am not. It has nothing to do with colour, and it has nothing to do with Asian people. If you think this is a racist attack on Asians then you are totally missing the point. Plus alot of Asians have very good jobs here, and are some are very successful, in general they are disliked by the British but that is just ignorance. It is also ignorant for YOU to assume that all browned skinned Asians have rubbish jobs, and that's why we don't want to be mistaken for them....That's the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. Are you for real? This is not Cyprus we're talking about! Anyone can succeed in the UK!

Don't be so naive Karma , these people are a bloody nuisance , and I'm saddened to note that you have not taken a blind bid of notice of the advice I gave you some time ago , take a little break and consider the benefits of indulging in some fine wine orgy unless you are a teetotaler of course . Are you a female by any chance ?

and if a Cypriot gets upset bcoz he is mistaken for Pakistani then he is even more racist than others..
got it??

Karma you indirectly called me racist through your above comments.

Again, what you said is incorrect as you do not have a true definition of what racism is that i clarified in an earlier thread.

Just because i get upset because people treat me badly for them thinking something i'm not is not racism. It's a case of mistaken identity, it's only natural for people to think that way. I often think how much more easier my life would be if people knew my background was Greek as most look positively towards them.

I have nothing against Asian people and if i was Asian and getting bad treatement i wouldnt care becuase i would be proud of where i come from.

As for Mitaldides, he makes a bit of a raw point. But again, it comes back to this issue that i mentioned in my previous point that people like Karma who are so ready to raise the race card make it harder for people in England to talk about issues such as this when such issues clearly need discussing.

Again, this coming from a British born Greek Cypriot with the English girlfiend and British/Asian best friend.

Natty, if a Pakistani person gets called "a paki" by another person, it's meant in an insulting way and you are right to feel sorry about this. I do feel sorry that such racism and ignorance exists. However if I was Pakistani, and someone called me a "paki" it actually wouldn't bother me so much, because I would be from Pakistan and proud of my culture and country, and if others don't like it then tough! But when I am a Greek, and someone calls me "a paki" then that bothers me. It wouldn't bother me though if they called me a "wop" or "grengo" or "greaseball" because these are things that are associated with meditaranean men. Yes it's still meant in an offensive way, as i've said earlier I don't care if i'm disliked for being Greek (because I am) but I do care that I am disliked for being Asian (which I am not).
