The British have to try harder. Sorry Millett even if your honest your comment "no one wants partition" is wrong, Turkey does. Either that or I have got it wrong in that case I owe him an apology.

Turkey could have enforced partition any time it wanted to over the last 30 years.

Turkey did not have to support the Annan Plan.

Turkey didn't want to be encircled in 1974 by hostile powers. There was also a humanitarian aspect which brought it to Cyprus (or an aspect cynically used - take your choice).

Life would be easier for Turkey if TCs and GCs could agree and and I don't really think Turkey is too concerned about what that agreement is, only enosis would be a step too far.

I think Greece too would go along with any agreement between TCs and GCs, probably including partition.

At the moment, overseas comment on Cyprus that I read, mostly names the current GC government as the one whose actions are most likely to lead to partition.

Turkey doesn't want partition?

For Turkey the problem was solved in 1974. Thats what they were saying.

They even declared a separate state in the occupied areas and pretended that partition not only is what they want but what it is already achieved. Can anything be more oxymoron than saying that you do not support partition while at the same time recognize a second state in Cyprus while nobody else does?

Partition was in Turkeys plans since before the 60s and there are maps showing a partitioned Cyprus since then. Turkey just waited for an excuse to invade. Everything else is just lame excuses.

The Annan plan was a partition plan and this is why Turkey and TCs supported it. If it was a plan that would liberate Cyprus from the foreign occupation (instead of legalizing it) would Turkey accept it?

No Piratis... The Peace Operation took place in 1974. Turkish Cypriots' (not Turkey) declaration of statehood via TRNC came in 9 years later: 1983! The most fundamental reason being that the world had to see that we (TCs) existed and were not represented in the Greek Cypriot administration who had hijacked the government of RoC. The Greek Cypriot administration under the hijacked title of the "government of the RoC" was passing reolutions in international platforms where the Turkish Cypriots community was not even heard. Recognition was of second importance. The Greek Cypriot Administration had the world believe that they were the legitimate government of Cyprus, in which no Turk was a member, and spoke on behalf of whole Cyprus. Furthermore, Turkey always favoured a federal system under a "legitimate" Cyprus government. Here is an excerpt from memoirs of Denktash in 1975:

"...that was to declare our statehood before the Greek Cyprit myth that they alone composed the Cypriot nation was irrevocably established. I made a public statement to this effect to the Turkish press before boarding my plane in New York for Turkey.

When I landed in Ankara I found that several close associates of Prime Minister Ecevit had already attacked me in statements and articles. As I entered Ecevit`s office that evening a new statement criticising for my folly was in preperation. Turkey favored a federal system and would not back up an indepenedent Turkish Cypriot state....

...It was agreed that I would not press for statehood and in return they would drop their harsh criticism of me. I felt that Ecevit saw the logic of my argument but could not bring himself to support me because, I suppose, of the wider interests of Turkey."

Furthermore, in order for everyone to understand that TRNC was not established for partition but a federal system that would lead to partnership in Cyprus, I am presenting some extracts from the Declarion of Indepenedence of the TRNC:

"We hereby declare before the World and before History the Establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as and Independent State....

The proclamation of the new State will not hinder, but facilitate the establishment of a genuine federation...

The new Republic will not unite with any other State...

Here is a map for partition proposed in 1957 by Kucuk.

So spare us the crap. Turkey wanted to invade and occupy part of Cyprus. Everything else is your lame excuses.

In Cyprus there is only one legitimate unitary Republic of Cyprus. I don't want any federation or any of your other crap. Why should an 18% minority force that on me? Who gave you the right?

Northern Cyprus is the homeland of 200.000 GCs and just 50.000 TCs. So on what basis should that part of Cyprus become a Turkish state? On the basis that you have big guns? Some defeatists might accept that, but I don't because I know that the day will come that we will take our blood and land back and I have no desire to cooperate in any way with people that do not show any kind of respect to me.

Turkish Cypriots can have what minorities have in all other European countries. If the Turks think thats not enough, then first they should give to the Kurds what they are asking from us, and then come and talk again.

Piratis, just when will you "take your blood and land back"? You are a moron of the highest order.

Stick your offer of minority rights up where the sun don't shine. We will be victorious, we will rule, create and map our own destiny and there is sweet jack shit you and your puppets can do about it.

You are free to do anything you want, as long as Turkey agrees :P

You cannot deny that Turkey has strategic interests (not TCs) in Cyprus. It will not give those up and will use TCs to achieve its aims. It just so happens that for TCs this is a win-win relationship to an extent.

The only morons are those that don't know that between the 18% and the 82% the 18% is a minority.
I am not making any offers, I am just stating a fact.

I had enough of moronic discussions. If you want to discuss logically on the basis of universal ideals such as democracy and human rights, then good.

If you just want us to negotiate our capitulation because you think you are "victorious" then there is nothing to talk about because it will not happen and it is out of the question.

Its a small price to pay, considering not a single TC would have been left on the island of Cyprus. Nobody can ever deny we owe them our lives.
