Can we sympathise/empathise with each other?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I agree with every single word that you post , and I'm confident that there thousands upon thousands of Cypriots who love and adore their children and grandchildren and would not wish them to experience the conflicts that the older generation has gone through. I look at my 3 year old grand daughter and I would do anything to make certain that she and all other Cypriot children do not have to endure the pain and suffering of the past years. Hatred is responsible , but more potent is the indoctrination that still takes place at schools , religious gatherings , civil activities etc. The RoC must face realities and elevate it's overall thinking to levels that all Cypriots can reach , touch and feel part of this island as their own , not merely a part of it but all of it.

Thank you for your kind words, miltiades.
Sometimes I get depressed thinking that those who live in Cyprus seem to have resigned to accept the status quo, which is probably the worst possible alternative.A running sore which only gets more and more poisonous as time goes by. And the politicians are only interesting in scoring political points against each other. We in the diaspora will have to do more, find ways of pushing the peace talks forward somehow.Lets all think about it and see what we come up with. You are right, Cypriot children deserve to live in a peaceful atmosphere where compassion and empathy rule supreme...

Can you make chocolate mousse with these ingredients, 2 sardines and a bit of HP sauce?

Hello,MR...Hope you and your lovely wife are recovering well from the jetlag! But why are you so pessimistic today.Do you think it is that difficult to put ourselves in somebody elses shoes just for a little while.Especially those of us who have experienced the trauma first hand?
I think this is the only way to a lasting and fair solution. If we feel the "enemy's" pain and show compassion, they will no longer be enemies, don't you think?

Birkibrisli ........ yes the family is doing better, I for one have felt a lightness over the past few days. My sister in-law of-course is mostly affected. Though I have seen a loving caring side of my crother that I had not experienced before. Who knows God works in mysterious ways. I have my own belief system which also helps me to cope and one that suggests that perhaps the soul of this baby was to experience what it experienced and pave the way and path for the following baby to experience a greater love. Who knows.

Thank you for your wishes, much appreciated and heart felt.

As far as the Cyprus thing ....... yes I have no idea where it will go either and sometimes I think it's not really going to move anywhere. Your reference to GSC's having given up .... I think they have and thus have concentrated on building an economic strength instead. I am really not sure. Just thinking out loud I guess.

The depressing thing is ,dear humanist, that we can be trusting and understanding with each other on an individual level, but when it comes to communal level we stuff up big time.
As miltiades mentioned as well,it has to do with the historical emnity and the ongoing negative indoctrination on both sides. It seems as if they can't help themselves,it is automatic, inbuilt, subliminal to mistrust and hate each other. We can all sympathise and empathise with your family's grief and Andri's pain, but cannot carry it to the communal level.Miltiades is right, the two governments especiaaly the RoC government have to do some serious reconciliation work if a just solution is ever to be found...I am bewildred that they do not see this obvious fact... :( :(

I do agree with both you and Miltiades in that there has been years of negativity and propaganda against one another, however, we do need to move beyond the past into the here and now and begin the reconciliation process as you both speak of. Why dodn't ehry because they are both wealthy men, living in luxury, enjoying ego trips of power and think very little of their people, then there is the extrnal forces that ad further stress to the problem........ what would happen to the US bases in northern cyprus? what will happen to the British bases in northern and southern cyprus? who would cover the owed lease maney as agreed to be paid by Britain for the bases? That money alone would be enough for each cypriot to be given a home by the government not to mention putting money into educational system that benefits all cypriot children. What would happen to Talat's Presidency if there is unification? are all these parties willing to give a little possibly loose a lot? that is why they are not acting. I so much want to swear and call them the unspicable word but I am restraining myself.
