And u plz dont pretend the Mother Teresa with ur sick, racistic comments.. All I said was , there is no need to make more drama, it is already painful, I hope they meet eachother and live happily..
And I hope u start reading more instead of listening ur husband..or ur mother in law....

if the truth will be reveiled, the young man will no need his father because his father will be far away in hague in the international crimes court where most of the turkish establishment should be since years ago.

more and more people share their memories about those events. the old man who was with christagis when he was shot, hat more details to add on another event. in the village voni around 150 gcs were gothered in the village church. some tcs paramilitary came and picked some men. it was obvious that they were picked to be executed. one of them begged them to let him live, as he was a father of 4 kids. they did so and picked other 7 persons including a 9 year old boy. a tc then shouted at the others telling them : what did this kid do to you ? let it go".
so the kid was saved.

irrespective of ideological difference ,i have to say, that this effort by politis newspaper deserves respect. more and more people are ready to share their experiences. and thats the only way for catharsis in this island

It looks as if this little boy has become a modern day jannissary... Crying or Very sad

you are exaggurating bir. if they boy is indeed alive and adopted by someone, that doesnt mean that this is an official state policy. it could be that the people who adopted him saved his life...it could be that they dont tell him out of fear of losing him, if he ever learns the truth.

this is way more human story than it is political

I agree Cypez...This is entirely a human story. I did not mean to say Turkey had revived the old "Devsirme" system. In fact if you are officially not of Turkish origin (ie if you are not Turkish or Kurdish-which till recently were named "mountain Turks!")you will not be allowed to serve in the Turkish armed forces.
I was responding-somehow lightheartedly-to rumours that this boy might have been adopted by an Officer of the Armed forces and was encouraged to join the Military afterwards...That reminded me of the old Ottoman tradition... :)
Humour is another weapon rarely used in the Cyprus conflict.I think if we can learn to laugh at our dramas/tragedies that too could lead to catharsis...

If he is alive Turkey should own up and provide full details but I feel Turkey will want to avoid this at all costs as it would open a can of worms with people asking about their own missing still being alive in Turkey. I think if this story is being pursued for political gain knowing that the child is dead then its cruel and despicable as that mother yet again raises her hopes in seeing her son before she dies.

Welcome back VP. I missed sparring with you for the last few days...well sort of.

My blood pressure is much lower thanks to you, since you have been away.  .

I recommend that you take more vacations in the future.

OK, back to your post.

Whether the child was dead back in 1974 or he is still alive today, Turkey does not have any right to keep quite on this, no matter how many "cans of worms" it will open, as a result. The child was in Turkey's custody in 1974, and bears all responsibility, or do we just look the other way, when such unpleasant events are done in the name of "intervention", therefore the mother's pain and loss of the her child can be side lined. I'm not a parent, and I feel very strongly about this, but you are a parent, so you tell me VP, how would you feel, if your child was in the same situation. Just because it is not our kids that have been missing for 33 years, it should not be seen as unworthy of knowing the truth, because it may open "can of worms". I believe all the "cans" should be opened, by everyone, Turkey, Greece, TC's & GC's, going back to 1963, so that we all know, where all the bodies are buried and who was responsible for their demise. The purpose is not to count who has killed more than the other, but to bring closure to their families and to our dark part of history, and it is only then, trust can be built upon to move forward.

Thanks for your insincere and cold welcome Ill take it with a pinch of salt.

You are showing the syndrome of not reading my posts fully or maybe you do not want to understand them, I did start by saying;

If he is alive Turkey should own up and provide full details

This would indicate don't agree that I am all for finally putting these poor people minds at rest and providing answers.
