Broadband coverage: Limassol area

Postby kalaharii » Sun Mar 11, 2007 9:50 pm

Hi guys

It's me, I'm back, but with a new monicker, as I couldn't remember my password and I've changed my email. So I am the same old kalahari really, but made up as kalaharii which is the sequel sort of. Bigger budget, weaker plot, few cameos from old has-beens, you get the gig.

Anyway, onto the subject matter. Due to arrive on Aphro's isle in July, and still no nearer being confident about CYTA's proud boast of broadband for the whole island.

So, I have (rather cleverly) taken CYTA's published area of broadband coverage for the Limassol area (which is the only area I'm really worried about, being a selfish git) and turned it, vis the magic of Photoshop, into a stylish picture or "graphic" as we profeshnials call it.

I thought that some of you forum folk might find this useful, and I am hoping that you will al come back and tell me where I have it wrong, so that I might amend it accordingly.

Net result should be an authoritative map of broadband coverage which we can then sell to CYTA for a hefty profit, as they don't have one. In fact I'm not sure they even know where Cyprus is. Bless them.

Have a look and post your critiques s'il vous plait. Ta.

Lots of love, Kal.

I'm back! As the original! The sequel was rubbish anyway. Anyway, back to the map...

Go have a look here, this is the most authoritative you're going to get. Or you could always email CYTA. If they reply the Vatican should be informed, as this will be a genuine miracle.

Welcome back kalahari :P Cool map but not very precise. You made your circles from the center of each village but they should have been done from telephone exchange of Cyta that is within the administrative region of the village but it can be kilometers away from the village ;)

Hi Sotos

Any idea how I get the info for where the exchanges are? Even BT in the UK get very cagey about the precise locations. A list would be great! Anyone?

Incidentally, CYTA say the distance from exchange that working ADSL can be received is 4 kilometres – which I would have said is a little optimistic.

I'm in Ypsonas, Limassol - and am connected to broadband. Does that help you any or are you looking for coverage in a particular area?

Hey catsitter, it's grist to the mill. If we get everybody telling us what their broadband is like, or indeed if they can get it, we'll be one step closer to having a definitive map and making CYTA look like muppets.

Okay, so it's not exactly hard to make CYTA look like muppets, but you get the gist.

Time for a joke? How many CYTA operatives does it take to chainsaw through a main land telephone line?

Depends on whose line it is.

All in the spirit of a competitive market I suppose.
