i see that there are many arabic words in turkish language,, and turkish is not a language as liguists say for it is mix of many other languages and used just in turkey. turkish as ataturk made after arabic was widely used in turkey in the era of otomon empire...i am not defending arabic but just saying my view point..

yes the word Halloumi is Arabic, but is the cheese Arabic?

Because i heard it just means "cheese" over there, not necessarily representing the particular type of cheese in question...

it doesnt even mean cheese in arabic!!!!!!!!!!
but, cheese has no language and exists everywhere,

no no i have no problem with arabs what so ever, i was just curious to know what the word meant in Arabic and if the cheese actually existed over there or is it exclusive to Cyprus, i just remember reading somewhere that it meant cheese, thats all...

there r many turkish words in Greek too, do Greeks speak turkish??

for example in syria halloumi is the same as cypriot one, in name and nature,,
and keep in mind that there many syrian shops in cyprus selling spices of halloumi, in morocco we call it ''joubn'' and it is made in different way thats all

Well there are 2 issues here.

a)If halloumi is a traditional Cypriot product
b)if it’s registered product name in the EU should be halloumi or halloumi+hellim.

Surely the word is Arabic.The fact is though the Arabs don’t make this kind of cheese. (Correct me if I am wrong). It seems to me some Arabic tribe came in Cyprus in the past, and they are the real inventors of halloumi. Nevertheless they became Cypriots but their recipe stayed. As there are histrical documents describing this cheese long before the Ottomans arrived then the question is should it be regisytered in Europe as "halloumi", as "hallouma", or as "halloumi and hellim".

Hey guys the issue is really IMPORTANT. With a European patent on halloumi we can at least screw the Europeans on one of our patents. Do you have any idea how much we pay them for their patents?? Well I already told my story with the German manager and how they managed to pass their patent into a new stupid EU safety regulation.
