Nothing to laugh about that. If you read some independent history (not TC) you would know that when Ottomans invaded Cyprus, local people in Cyprus (e.g. GCs) were quite jubilant, because they were continuously oppressed by their Venetians masters because of their religious beliefs. (Catholics vs. Orthodox)..

If you did some independent research you would have know that.

I am not saying that Ottomans were always the best rulers as well (and certainly did not came to save GCs as well, for that matter any imperialistic country is not because the reason of invading another country is to use their resources) but nevertheless initially they were very well greeted.

Read some non GC and non TC history and learn to be objective.

Ask yourself why is most of the Orthodox monasteries are all well in the mountains and all of the old churches in the cities are all done in Latin architecture (i.e. catholic)

It is true actually.

Throughout the ex-Byzantine territories, the catholic church was forcefully taking over the administration of the Orthodox church, putting orthodox priests to death "as heretics", and so on. For these reasons, the Papal catholic church was deeply hated by the people ...

The ottomans were seen by the people of the time as "the lesser of two evils" ... the thought being that "the ottomans may enslave our bodies, but the Pope would have corrupted our souls"

So, I wouldn't say that the ottomans were "jubilantly welcomed" - that sounds to me like an ottoman historical source trying to sing the virtues of the ottoman army. But it is true that their presence was accepted, with a bitter resignation, as the lesser of two evils.

Ok. Jubilant may have gone far I agree. But what I was trying to say is that during that time local welcomed Ottomans over the existing rulers, Venetians.

You kind of sommed it up, by saying they were "the lesser of teh two evils" in the eyes of locals. At the end no society would like to be ruled by another. It does not matter whether they are Venatians or Ottomans. But local prefer Ottomans over Venetians because of their religious tolerance. If you pay your heavy taxes and do not mind getting your resources used by your rulers, you were free to exercise your religion as you wish.

The whole imperalism relies on capturing new land and using their resources anyway. Once the sieges stops, and empire becomes to big to manage, decline started anyway. Like every empire existed on the face of the world so far.

Take care,

Well, if you know your history good, then you will also know that Greek Cypriots welcomed the British almost as their saviors when they first took Cyprus. According to you they should have been very sad that they were loosing their favorite ruler, but aparently this was not the case no matter how much you want to believe it.

To tell us that the Ottomans made us a favor is ridiculous to say the least. They came here to exploit us and this is perfectly clear.
They had Cypriots as their slaves and they forced many of them to change religion (=turkish cypriots). As it was proven they were no better than the Venetians.

You seriously have serious issues of understanding what others say. Don’t you.

All I said was ‘when Ottomans invaded Cyprus they were welcomed by the locals compared to their previous rulers’. You may not want to accept it but that is the truth.

You may have preferred Brits over Ottomans, and I do not dispute that. And you may be very happy to get rid of all of the outsiders, Ottomans, Brits, Venetians etc. etc. Nobody will dispute that as well. Who would want to be ruled by others after all (so may be you get our point as a TC that we do not want to be ruled by you. If you are for a equal partnership then fine, otherwise partition is the second best option.)

And from my post if you get the idea that Ottomans made a favor to GCs, then you should seriously start considering taking some English lessons. When did I say that they did not exploit Cyprus. It simply did not matter who was in Cyprus for Ottomans when they had invaded Cyprus. They simply needed the strategically positioned island like Cyprus to control the trade in Mediterranean. Other than that there were actually no other resources in Cyprus that they can use. (and of course the trees of Cyprus for ship building. That was important resource too)

Anyway, I had enough talking with you, with a mentality that everything that Turks does is killing and oppressing more Greeks. And this is the attitude we are trying to form a partnership in Cyprus with. Good luck to all of us.

Piratis, you're so arrogant, you know that?

Turkish Cypriots = Greek Cypriots forced into Islam.

This shows how simple your mind works, I'm sorry to say.

They might have been welcomed because they were unknown. When GCs learned how the Ottomans really are they were not welcomed anymore. This is also the truth.

Anyways. I am glad it was just a misunderstanding, and you accept that the Ottomans came here to exploit us and that there was nothing good about this. It is clear that GC suffered 100 times more by the Turks, and that the 10 years that TCs suffered is nothing compared to the suffering that Turks caused to us.
