Why? Did you find anything at the bottom of TRashNcan
Are you sure its not one of those fake blinged-out ones??? Come on - you must admit they are a bit tacky???
Oooh look he knows the word 'pussyhole' too. Who is your favourite Jamaican artist? Sean Paul or Elephant Man??? lol Did you know what dancehall music WAS before the songs 'Heads High'?? or 'Zim Zimma'??? lol. Did you only listen to Tupac and Biggie before then??
I used to live in a estate full of Jamaicans in my early refugee years in London , I know everything about Jamaican music. Reggea, Dancehall, Roots....
think Sean Paul and Elephant are alright as it goes, they've made some good contributions to Dancehall, I prefer their old tunes though, and Elephant when he was with Scare Dem Crew but their new stuff is too commercial, ain't really a big fan of their new tunes, aint really a fan of the new sounds full stop.
I like all the Emcees, the new and the ones from back in the day. Yellowman, Cobra, Bounty (in his "War Lord" days, he's been a flop recently), Buju, Capleton, Hammond, Shabba, Beenie, Ward21, Spragga, Lady Saw, Tanya Stephens, Patra, Sizzla, Ninja, Degree I could go on all day, I have too many favorites to list...I pretty much know of them all though.
As for hiphop and rap, I lost interest long time ago...but I still listen to some Biggie, Tupac, Rakeem, Wu Tang and the one that reminds me of my youth so much Da Brats first "Funkdafied" album. Other than that I'm not really into hip hop.
In that case - without surfing the net - who founded the famous Studio 1 label? Or who is recognised as the first reggae deejay with a recording contract??? Your talking to someone who did a university project on the history of the Jamaican music market
Sean Paul is boring to me and a rip off of Super Cat. If his skin colour was blacker - he wouldnt have sold as many records world wide. I used to like Elephant Man a lot and liked his wittiness which was lacking in dancehall when he came around. I get real bored of the 'bun chi chi man' stuff tho. The rest id agree with you, modern reggae music seems kinda weak to me know and all these new 'riddims' are lacking in music. I grew up on the dancehall of the 80's and early 90's. My favourite dancehall artist for me is probably Ninja Man or Tiger - the era I grew up on.
Your talkin about the 90's it seems. Yeah a good era - but for me after the bogle riddims came out, dancehall sounded repetitive. Dont mind early Capleton but that is one guy who chats a lot of shit and is very contradictive. I heard he aint that popular in Jamaica these days for that reason. Same with Sizzla - i liked him when he first came out but some his latest stuff is just bullshit. I love classic reggae like Denis Brown, Alton Ellis, all the studio1 stuff. Im a big fan of Lovers Rock too. Yeah I like Beresford Hammond also.
