Northern Cyprus festival in London
A festival featuring activities aiming to promote the culture of Northern Cyprus is to begin today in London.
The festival will be inaugurated by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer. Soyer will open the painting and cartoon exhibition at Abney Public Hall. Soyer is expected to deliver a speech and address the public at the exhibition.
Paintings by Turkish Cypriot painters Nilgun Guney, Asik Mene, Alper Susuzlu and Sumer Erek and the cartoons from the Northern Cyprus Caricaturists Association will be on display for a week.
A comedy entitled "Havasu Garayanni" will be staged by the Apler Susuzlu Theater Co. on Friday.
After the Umut Albayrak Orchestra's concert, with a repertoire consisting of Turkish and Greek songs, at the St. Monica Hall on Saturday, the Lefkosa Youth Center Folk Dance group will perform on Sunday. During the event, as well as music and dance, traditional crafts and a selection of Northern Cyprus cuisine will be on offer to guests.
The festival will end on March 14 after the closing of the painting and cartoon exhibition.
