plasma or LCD?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I was considering a projector TV for my place in Dherynia but was told that the bulb (someone mentioned 300 quid and 3 years earlier) goes through a cooling cycle when the projector is turned off. So if you have a power cut... no cooling cycle..... no more bulb. Bit too much of a risk in Cyprus as far as I'm concerned.

The bulbs do have to go thru a cooling cycle when shutting down, but they are designed to cope with power interuption.

The issue is turning them back on after they have been turned off, the sets have a failsafe built in to protect against that.

If you are worried you can use a PC UPS to maintain the power for long enough to shut the TV down... it only consumes 78w of power after all

:D

G.Man do you get the "rainbow effect" with the back projection TVs in the same way you get it with the cheaper DLP projectors?

I havent noticed any rainbow effect on mine, even when playing my Xbox 360 in Hi-Definition, but I do occasionally see the dithering when you have fast moving skin colour..

ie if a camera pans quickly accross someones face, or someone runs accross the screen...

Its so momentary that it never becomes annoying, and the resolution and contrast 2000:1 more than makes up for it..

I have read some reports that the black levels arent as good as plasma, but this simply isnt true on mine, and other reviewers of my TV say the same...

Sadly Sagem have stopped making them as they had some reliability issues, and they were costing them too much to fix under warranty, although mine has been flawless.. so far.. its nearly 2 years old...

Sotos, if you are anywhere near Nicosia I am happy to show it to you some time..

Its all very well listening to a fanboy, but far better to judge for yourself

;)
