Fortunately, there are many, and especially in the USA, who are more civic-minded than you and care for the air we breathe.

Every single one of us are emitting 10.26 tonnes of CO2 each year with our vehicles, electricity, heating, cooking etc. This is disgraceful when you compare it with, say, France or Switzerland or many other places with much colder climates. See http://www.cypenv.org/Files/east_med_energy.htm to see that we are beaten only by Israel. and you can go to http://www.cypenv.org/Files/climate_change.htm to see how climate change is affecting this island.

Thanks devil for the links ... really interesting ones

Some supermarkets have collection bins, as do some municipalities. Then there are recyclers, like the one near the Strovolos Orphanides, where you can leave them off. Finally, ask your mukhtar or mayor: they have the obligation to tell you what to do with them (politely :) )

See http://www.cypenv.org/Files/waste.htm

I would add that it is now illegal to put anything electrical or electronic in the rubbish: it must be recycled. Furthermore, Cyprus has the obligation to collect 4 kg of electrical/electronic waste per inhabitant/per year, or face a fine of €250,000 from Brussels (WEEE Directive) See also http://www.cypenv.org/Files/weee.htm

No live wild Bee's or Wasps in the village where I live last year for the first time in living memory. No crop spraying in the area or anything else different to previous years.
It's still early but I've already noticed a few dead or dying wild Bee's in the garden this year.

For some unexplained reason Bee's in California all seem to have disappeared and farmers are having to hire in Bee hive colonies from other parts of the US to propogate their crops.

Bee's being amongst the most sensitive creatures to environmental change would seem to know something that we dont.

Early snake activity also appears to have taken place as I've already found fresh shed snake skins in the cane ceiling of our old stable building, dont normally see these until later on in the year.

On the plus side it could all mean that I'll have a lesser distance to drive to the beach as sea levels rise.
