Do you hate Greece?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Sotos » Wed Mar 07, 2007 9:55 am

askimwos, GCs are no different than Cretans. If Cyprus was part of Greece since the 50s then you think GCs would now want to split from Greece? And if Cretans were independent country now then I bet you they wouldn't want to be part of the Greek state either. This has more to do with our interests than what we are. Actually the Cretans have a lot more local non Greek civilization than us. (Minoan civilization)

Sotos you don't get it do you?

Here we go once again:

A nationality cannot be defined by language and religion alone. I am not even sure if it can be defined at all. What is important is the perception of the people. Read this again P - E - R - C - E - P - T - I - O - N.

The Cretans and the Cypriot have different perception about their identity, and I do not care how this perception was created, it doen't matter anyway.

The GREAT MAJORITY of the GCs perceive themselves as Cypriots or Cypriots first but of Greek decent. The Cretans perceive themselves as GREEK FIRST of Cretan decent. Stop confusing apples with oranges.

How do you know that? I know some Cretans and they are very proud for being Cretans. I think it is logical that first you feel what is closer to you. So because I am from Limassol I am Limassolian first and then Cypriot and then Greek. If it is Cyprus VS Greece I would support Cyprus, and if it was Limassol VS Nicosia I would support Limassol. It doesn't mean I am less Cypriot or less Greek because I am first Limassolian. I agree with you about the perception but I disagree that 30% of Greek Cypriots do not feel Greek at all. Maybe 5% but not 30%.

If a thread like this has already been made then I am sorry but I was just wondering... Do you Greek Cypriots hate Greece?

I was wondering the same long time, but also most of the Greeks in Greece do not like Cypriots at all, many times they comment much better feelings about Turks..it sounds a bit wierd but it is the truth

Why apples and oranges? It is 2 islands in the Mediterranean. The only difference one is part of Greek state and the other is not due to political reasons. Even our dialects are very similar and unlike the Athenian one! I mean you can feel any way you want to feel and maybe there some Cretans that don't feel Greek either. As you said is about perception but don't exaggerate with saying that 30% don't feel Greek!!

This is a wrong argument.

I have a question for you... what would you say if the prime minister of Greece was a Cypriot.

Athens is not some kind of terror regime! Greece is a democratic country. Take a look at the leaders of Greece for the past 30 years and you will see that none of them was really Athenian...

Anyway Greece and Cyprus are two different independent countries. I believe that the way Greece is acting now is actually helping Cyprus more than if it was ivolved actively into the Cyprus affairs. It is the first time in history that we Cypriots have the chance of a truly independent state.

I can understand your disbelief as you have learned always to be dependent from mother turkey and you were raised with imperialistic ideals that make it impossible for you to understand that Greece does not have any overruling desire over Cyprus.
