Direct trade and/or flights with the illegal Turkish military base called “TRNC” is legally IMPOSSIBLE for any EU member.

No European country is really interest about Cypriot problem they prefer to see their materialistic interest. If for example they decide direct trade Greece and Cyprus will go against this decision to the European Court that means that we ll have result after 5-8 years. The game ... will be lost, this is the reality.

The EU is locked in its own political correctness and Cyprus also happens to have a veto just in case. Cyprus need not apply to any court.

Furthermore, your theory is based on the assumption that Cyprus is of no value or of insignificant value to the EU and nothing could be further from the truth.

If you’re going to reply then I’d like to hear WHY Cyprus is important to the EU. This would encourage me to continue discussing with you otherwise you’re wasting my time with pessimistic old wife’s tales.

I can assure you that the vast majority of GCs do not hate Greece. We are very proud of being Greek, although I admit that we are different from Greeks of Greece, because we are Greeks from Cyprus. Even in Greece some Greeks are very different. For example, Balkan Greeks (i.e. those who live in the Macedonian region) are very different from the Greeks of Rhodes, have different dialects and even look different. I would say GCs are very similar to the Greeks who live on the Greek Mediterranean islands, i.e. Crete, Rhodes etc. We have an almost identical dialect to Rhodes. Of course if Cyprus was competing against Greece in any competition, I would support Cyprus, because that is my island. This is obvious; for example, if Crete for whatever reason played the rest of Greece in a game of football, who would Cretans support? It does not mean that they are not Greek, but it means that are Cretan Greeks, so they will support Crete. The same applies to Cyprus.

I am surprised you even need to ask this question really. Yes, there are many neo-Cypriots on this Forum, but many of these people don't even live in Cyprus. If you look at Cyprus daily, consider the celebrations when Greece won Euro 2004, did that look like we hated Greece? Consider our celebrations on OXI day, and Greek Independence Day. Look at the many Greek flags in Cyprus and Greek football tops that Cypriots wear. GCs even consider the Greek National Anthem as theirs also! Of course there will always be a minority that dislike Greece, whether because of personal experiences or because of the Junta period etc. But these are definitely the minority. By the way, even if a GC does not like Greece; I know many English people that do not like England, but it doesn't stop them being English.

well said simon, this is probably the most intelligent thing ever said on this forum, any Greek Cypriot who denies they are Greek are either uneducated or confused about their own identity, they really need to read some history and understand Cyprus and its history and politics..luckily they are only a small minority

Ok as a Greek vlahos i don't know nothing and i m pessimistic and
you don't want see another view of political reality.
The destiny of Greece and the Greek people is to support all the decisions of Cyprus (by the way Papadopoulos is very popular in Greece) even if some superior neo Cypriots are insulting the inferior Greeks.
Hellens always had some confrontation

Spartans versus Athenians
philo Macedonians versus anti Macedonians
Christians versus Hellens( pagans)
iconoclast versus iconophiles
royalists versus venizelists
communists versus nationalists
and others ,
and the last fruit
superior neo Cypriots versus inferior mainland Greeks

Postby constantine » Mon May 07, 2007 8:14 am

I am half Greek and half Greek Cypriot, from my point of view, going to Greece for the summer after being in Cyprus for the year, does not feel like im going to a different country and people. I am half Greek and half Greek Cypriot but i feel that both share the same identity as a culture, i see all ovr the internet people saying how Cypriots are not true Greeks, well if that is true, are the Cretens Greeks? their accent is quite similar to the Cypriot Greek

Constantine , my two children are half G/C and half English and are quite comfortable with being English and Greek Cypriot , same culture , same western world values and both nations firmly in the 21st century . One thing they are not however are Greeks , ie from Greece. As for my only grandaughter , she is 1/4 English and 3/4 Greek Cypriot. There is no reason to feel less or more of something , we are Cypriots some are by both parents some by one only and some by settlement in Cyprus.

Constantine, do not try to find reasoning with these people... most of them have fled their own country, what do you expect... it is amazing that you can spot those who have fled Cyprus by their ideas being so incompatible to the political and ethnical reality of Cyprus today.
