It was worse in Limassol a few years ago... now the worst was in Ayia Napa last summer. They even offered the taxi ride for free in order to take people to their office. The scam is that "winning" couple prepaid holidays for the next 10 years at around about 10,000 CYP, quite an attractive offer, but they were booked in 2 star bungallows instead of 4-5 star hotels. So imagine you pay 10,000 UNREFUNDABLE for the next ten years for yourself and the dear old wife while anything can happen, sickness, divorce maybe and other disasters, but no refund! Imagine the numbers these scambags make if for example they collect 10,000 X 1000 idiots, that equals 10,000,000 in a season! All prepaid and non refundable! I could book all the hotels on the island for a job like that and then vanish to Argentina!!!

I don't know why but I've never been approached in Paphos even though I've visited regularly.

Perhaps I'm just pig ugly or I look as if I don't have a penny to my name --- what ever it is it seems to work.

I've often had people in front of me and behind me stopped with the scratch card thingy -- but as yet I've been left alone .

Now if you ask about Eastern Europeans selling fake Rolex and cheap camcorders in the car park -- that's a different matter -- they often follow me across the car park trying their hardest to sell me stuff even though I'm pretty rude to them .

I always seem to think of gavcar when I see them flogging their fake rolex watches .
