Ex-pats

Can someone tell me why do the Brits in Cyprus insist on calling themselves ex-pats and not foreigners?

A foreigner is a person who is a National of another country; an Ex-Pat is not only that but also a person not living in the country of their origin.

Does this make all foreigners living or working in Cyprus ex-pats? Or everyone who is a different national then the country they're living in ?

Oh Lana, that was really cute, the way you explained that, well sort of explaining it anyway..

So basically, a Foreigner= Ex-Pat, and a Ex-Pat= Foreigner. :?

I think that's what you said.

As I understood it an 'ex-pat' is and ex-pat to another ex-pat of the country they were both ex-pats of :)

So I would not be an ex-pat to a cypriot only to another Brit ex-pat.... I think :?

This USA based website has an interesting "take" on the definition of the word Ex-Pat....
