advice wanted to get job in Cyprus

Postby NICKI BRENNAN » Mon Mar 05, 2007 1:18 pm

Me and my partner are wanting to move to Cyprus and would like to find work, we both work in hotels, him as a chef and me as fitness coach and duty manager for the hotel, I can also work a bar.

What is the best way to look for work prior to coming over, are there any recruitment agencies we can sign up to

Nicki, Do you both have qualifications? The hotel industry is a very tough one in Cyprus. Very hard work for not so good wage. The best way is to contact hotels directly and ask for the personel manager. I can give you a couple of contacts for 5 star hotels in Paphos if you send me an email address.

If your heading to ROC then you may need to speak the language. Hotels are limited for your field in Nicosia. Napa is seasonal. Limassol is all year round. Saying that 3 big hotels were closed over the winter for refurbishments. Don't expect super wages...or good for that matter! Check out the other threads on moving here. It's not that easy!

Hi Nicki

Try some of these:
http://www.onestop-employment.com/article.php?id=89
http://www.jobincyprus.com/english/index2.php
http://www.grsrecruitment.com/content/c ... nistration
http://www.careersonweb.com/JobSeekerAll/Home.aspx

Good luck.

You may find that some of the sites prefer that you are already in Cyrus before they will accept an application for a position. Lots of times, you will hear nothing after applying for a position then suddenly out of the blue, they want you to attend for an interview and start the next day!

Hi Nicki a bit of advice be prepared IF you can actually find a job to work HARD and for SxxT wages think carefully this place is paradise if you can afford to retire or have plenty of dosh its not what it seems if you have to work THINK VERY CAREFULLY you will NOT walk straight into a job no matter who promises you what?.

GOOD LUCK

Eric.

Hi Nikki,
Not sure which area you will be living in but knowledge I have is limted to Ayia Napa and Limassol area.
Ayia Napa is seasonal only the bigger hotels are open all year whilst in Limassol most Hotels are open all year as I think someone has already said.
For Chef postions if he has qualifications then no Greek will not be a problem for other postions in the Hotel trade especially Bar and Waiting Staff and also in the fitness area Greek will not always be essential in the larger hotels although it will help if you have another language say German or French or Russian!.
Chef wages are not that low depending on qualifications or experience but for other positions they most definitely are also normal working hours for non Cypriot Union members are 6 days a week!
Most Hotels would prefer that you are actaully living here before making a job offer unless the jobs are on from their own websites or international ones.
Hope this has helped a little bit
