Cyprus President: Cyprus problem has never been a religious conflict

Nicosia, Jan 11 (CNA) -- The Cyprus problem is not and has never been a religious conflict. It is simply and plainly an issue of invasion and occupation of 37% of the territory of Cyprus by Turkey, Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said receiving yesterday the credentials of the new High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Cyprus Manzo George Anthony, who is based in Tel Aviv.

Papadopoulos said the Government of Cyprus remains committed to a solution of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation and shall continue working for a negotiated solution that addresses the legitimate concerns of the people of Cyprus as a whole, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots alike.

Presenting his credentials the new High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria said Cyprus and Nigeria ''share a lot in common, being members of the Commonwealth of Nations and the Non-aligned Movement, among others.''

Anthony said ''it is our sincere desire to equally felicitate you on your country’s determined and sincere efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the Cyprus problem, and your policy of creating conditions of stability, security and cooperation in the region.''

Who asked T-Pap whether the Cyprus problem was a religious conflict or not?

Ahhaa! Does that mean that if Turkey has never "invaded" and stopped occupying %37 of Cyprus, the problem would be solved? So he consider TCs as they have already accepted to be a minority in unitary RoC. And he also consider TCs as they have already accepted to be relocated because of return of all refugees. Besides, he stupidly and naivly believes that TCs have full trust to him and the likes of him.

This man either must be a dotard or assumes his dreams true.

So, what were Clerides and Denktash talking about from 68 to 74? Still, this is not to say that it is a religious problem

techinally as of this moment thats all its about, turkey is occupying the northern third of cyprus, all the unfortunate events from 1963-1974 are on the back-burner the world sees the turkey as a occupier.simple as that.thats why the embargo unless lifted by the UN will remain and thats why the"trnc"will never be recognized as a state.and whatever anyone says on this forum the truth of the matter thats all it is,in the past it may have been extremst g/c in eoka b that might at held you hostage at gunpoint but in the last thirty years its turkey.

but surely if you want / expect an agreed settlement then the Cyprus issue can be about just Turkey having 'control' of x% of Cyprus? And just saying so does nothing to help the prospects for an agreed solution? Or are we talking about an enforced solution or no solution at all?

Dude, I gotta disagree: our leaders are not trying to just find a way to get the Turkish army and the settlers out... They're also trying to accommodate TC fears/concerns, which originate from events prior to 1974. So, it's not simply and plainly a problem of invasion.

Boulio, insofar as I know, there has been nothing you disagreed with the statements of Papadopulos. Are there any issueas, points of view of Papadopulos you disagree with him or you are just a plain advocate of T-Pap? I'm just wondering and thinking loudly... :)

i dont remeber when but i think there was a desicion from either the eu parliment or ehrc that basically declared i think that turkey was and is responsible and to be the one entity to direct things toward in cyprus, for ex:loizoudou vs. turkey and the other 2,000 cases in the court,so you know what it wasent louizoudou vs. trnc or the person occupiying her house it was turkey.so you know what i do agree when papadopoulos says it is invasion and occupation on that i agree about.i had said something a while ago when i first joined the forum that if turkey had intervened and restored the roc or held talks to implement a solution they would have been seen in a different lite, unfortunatly they didn't.

I think the Greek equivelent of this word is "yerro" that we the TCs still have been using it instead of the Turkish one "bunak".

But dotard has a wider meaning something like "gicimiş bunak" :eyecrazy:

I looked it up, insan, and the dictionary says it means 'senile person'...

I don't think he's senile, though, he's much too cunning for that, so it must be the other one, about assuming his dreams true :D :D
