Postby humanist » Sat Mar 03, 2007 2:15 am

Wanted fair, just, educated, spiritual, enlightened beings to join EOKA C Enosis of northern and southern Cyprus into one Nation, where all cypriots live in peace harmony and on the land that was handed down to them by their ancestors.

every cypriot has their ancestral lands alocated to them and to this end ought to reclaim them and have the right of access and manipulation of their lands.

I am looking for recuits to fight this cause with peaceful marches and a candlelight ceremony to be held in our individual homes. To participate allyou have to do is to place a yellow candle by your window and light it on Sunday 6pm and let it burn out. Your wish to be for a unified Cyprus.

Enosis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Enosis (Greek: Ένωσις) is the Greek term for "union." During the time when Cyprus was a British colony (1878-1960), and since Cypriot independence, the word has generally referred to a proposed union between the island of Cyprus and Greece. Similar movements had previously developed in other Hellenic regions such as Crete and the Dodecanese, resulting in the incorporation of these areas into the Greek state.

The enosist movement was the natural outgrowth of national awareness of the Hellenic population of Cyprus that made up the overwhelming majority of the population of the island coupled with the growth of the anticolonial movement amongst the people of Cyprus. In fact the anti-colonial movement in Cyprus was identified to the enosist movement, enosis being, in the minds of the Hellenic population of Cyprus, the only natural outcome of the liberation of the Cypriot people from British rule.

In a referendum held under the initiative of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, over 98% of the Greek population of Cyprus voted in favour of ridding Cyprus of British rule and the unifying the island to the independent Greek state.

In 1955, the guerrilla movement EOKA was formed in Cyprus in order to end British rule and unite the island with Greece. However, faced by an immediate threat of the British administration of partitioning the island of Cyprus between Turkey and Greece, the Greek Cypriots and the leadership of the Greece were forced into accepting the formation of a fragile independence for Cyprus in 1960, and the Republic of Cyprus was set up.

The first Cyprus President Makarios III as well as all Greek Cypriot political groups representing the whole of the political spectrum, continued after independence to advocate enosis as just and natural. The Cypriot leadership, however, gradually recognised enosis as politically unfeasible. During the presidential campaign for the 1968 elections, Makarios said that enosis was "wishable" whereas independence was "possible". This differentiated him from the hardline pro-enosis elements which formed EOKA-B and participated in a coup against him in 1974. The coup was sponsored by the military dictatorship of Greece, which triggered the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and resulted in partition of Cyprus and massive population transfers. Today, enosis is not officially supported in Cypriot politics. [citation needed]

Building a house on dodgy foundations is not a good idea Humanist. Sort out the government that wants our support and pick a new name for your campaign and we can maybe start from there??????

I kinda like the word it is a pitty it has been bastardised by very few in the events leading up to 1974. As far as the ground being shaky my friend no more shaky than building a house on refugee land. But I am happy to change the name any day Zan I am not that attached. How about the yellow candle vigil for a united cyprus. I guess there wont be any yellow candles burning at your place tonight, then hey Zan? that's okay though, we all have toi stand up for what we believe to be right for us at the time.

Paul you have your own reasons for raising the issue of enosis with greece, I have stated many times before that I find any reference to Greek Speaking Cypriots as greeks offensive, I have nothing in common with Greek other than language. Enosis means Union and it can be aunion between two people or two parts of a country, ie north and south of our Island. Gave mentyioned in one of his posts that Cyprus is a paradise welll lets make that paradise whole as it should be, this is peace post if you want to raise other shit go ahead create your own topic, andd let this fool have his go at getting all Cypriots together, if nothing else humor me. I shall let you know of turkey her games and manipulation of cypriots currently living in the north in your new topic.
