Why did Turkey invade Cyprus in 1974?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

There are thousands of sources - what I'm looking for is something more bare-bones factual.

Often those who know all the facts are either dead, or if alive, will be sent to prison, for their crimes, if they say anything.

So often, when ever there is a major event that happens, for example wars and assassinations, we never get to know the absolute truth, because no single person knows everything. When all these events are organized, often they have been "compartmentalize" so that, all the truth will never be known by just one person, except for heads of states sometimes, and even then, unless they confess, you will come to a "dead end" trying to find out all the facts.

So what happens is, we get people who may or think they know part of the "puzzle", so they write what they think are the facts, but not all the facts, because they do not know it. This then starts the whole debate about which side the argument favours more than the other. You may have 100 people who will write about the Cyprus Problems, and lets just say, that they are all accurate, then comes the problem as how to connect them all, to give a "unbiased" report. So I think, it is a futile attempt to try and find an absolute, unbiased, factual, accounting to the Cyprus problems.

Dammit, Kiks, are you telling me to think for myself?!!!

Bloody producers :D

Thanks for input, most valuable xx

either way you look at it, what will seem unbiased to you it will be biased to the other side.

what we need is the truth to be told by the people involved and it seems no one is in a rush to come out with anything

lets look at the klerides book. he wrote it for the money, because if he didn't his story should have been for free since a lot of people suffered.

another individual taking advantage of the sufferers and making money of their backs.

That's the Catch 22 of this whole situation, pitsilos, especially for a journalist. When I write a story, I have to think twice about people's titles, like president or foreign minister, because in Cyprus, a foreign minister isn't necessarily a foreign minister but really a thieving, pseudo politician who's stolen millions etc, etc, etc. And not a president, but really a....you get the picture.

It gets confusing and I've lived here for over 15 years! Imagine foreign journalists and the issues they face in trying to name the politicians who are in play.

4 all you doubters now it’s OFFICIAL

Invasion V. intervention

http://www.hellenicnews.com/readnews.ht ... 83&lang=US

The State Department, incredible as it may seem, refuses to call Turkey’s invasion an invasion. The State Department calls it intervention. The U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus Michael Klosson refused to call it invasion when he met with an American Hellenic Institute delegation these past two years and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza refused to call it invasion at an AHEPA sponsored panel on September 9, 2005.

So if theUSA do not call it an invasion, why are you, dont you know the USA TELLS EVERYONE the way it is

After raping Iraq non-stop for 3 years, the Turkish invasion must seem like a picnic to the US.

You're correct Paaul12, it was "intervention" first,........... then came the "invasion".

It is a little bit like sex really. First you have the "foreplay".....then comes the "screwing".

You must also understand something about Americans, which is, they have a very short attention span.

I'm sure once they saw the "intervention" on the TV, people then changed the channel to something more stimulating program.......something like the "Big Brother".

I guess they did not tune in for the "invasion".

Yes Paaul12, as usual, you make a lot of sense.
