My research finds a landmark event just 5 days earlier...
Turkey hired a Turkish Cypriot thug who on the 7th of June 1958 placed a bomb at the doorstep of the Turkish press office in Nicosia. As expected the Turkish Cypriot community blamed the Greek Cypriots for the explosion and this sparked inter-communal fighting.
Turkey had long prepared the climate on the island that would masquerade a full military invasion into a “guarantor's intervention". The desirable climate of course would be two distinct communities "slaughtering" each other so that big brother could "heroically" step in and establish "order" and thus "justify" partition and a permanent stay!
Without Turkish Cypriot assistance, as in the example above, Turkey's grand plan for Cyprus would have never been attainable.
