English and Cyprioti n a steak restuarant. "How would you like your steak.?" English - "medium well", Cypriot- "cremated"!!!

I've been to Blue Elephant. Lost a lot of its charm. Cipriani near Grosvenor Square is supposed to one of the IN restuarants at the mo. Went when I was in London 3 weeks ago. Ridiculously over priced & too crowded. Waiters and Maitre'D make up for it though. Main courses start at 19.00 and a glass of cliquet is 15.00

Harvey Nicks are doing a great promotion in their 5th floor cafe. 2 course meal 10.00, 3 courses 13.00. Great value. Yummy!!!

(for no particular reason) I think the Tatras were/are nomadic people and the horse breeding was mainstream of their activities. And the "steak tartare" should mean rare and horse-flesh. But I'm not sure.

"The basis of the name is the legend that nomadic Tatar people of the Central Asian steppes did not have time to cook and thus placed meat underneath their horses' saddles. The meat would be tenderised by the end of the journey."

We looked on the menu and both ordered "steak tartare" with "pomme frittes" thinking we was going to get steak and chips. We waited and waited and they brought us the ketchup and mayo, we were literally shaking from hunger, they eventually brought us our "steak" which ended up being RAW mince meat with a RAW egg cracked on top

I would have complained about it

Everyone knows that Steak Tartare should also be served sprinkled with capers and cracked black pepper also

Rule one 'if in doubt ask the waiter'
