europe to produce new cyprus plan

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby boulio » Mon Jan 10, 2005 9:16 pm

Any solution which is prepared by the EU will tend to incorporate more of the GC' swishes against TC wishes because EU is not a independent body since GC have become member to it.

That is whay I am very pessimistic. In order to find a lasting solution to Cyprus, there has to be exist many derogations to EU law, which I believe EU will hesitate to give

i dont think you can label it as G/C wishes, but EU WISHES as it is there laws that we will follow.

the eu believe it or not may include derogations, however the will most likely not be permanent or that long in length as we saw in the annan plan.and it will most likely include everyone, not say 18% of right of return to the north.

Oh, and, sorry if I'm being a ball-buster, but how is the EU any less impartial than the UN? GCs are also a member of the UN, and TCs are not, so...?

Yes man, I agree with you that it's not about affluence! I just got the impression from turkcyp's post that he was concerned about our influence in the EU and how that might make the plan imbalanced (if there is any plan), and I thought that might be helpful in easing his worry on that point. I was not suggesting that we can or should influence any EU body.

Let's just wait and see what this intaive brings is my view.

I have a certain amount of 'trust' in the EU (as I have in the UN). I think both bodies, as bodies, have a sincere desire to see a fair (to both parties) solution. At the end of the day there are some basic requirments for each side. We have failed to resolve these differences ourselves, we have also reject an attempt by the UN to do it for us. Let's wait and see what the EU comes up with before passing any judgments. I think the TC claims and desires for a degree of political equality in Cyprus are fair and valid. We will see in due course if the EU experts also think so or not. If they do accept this principal then I find it hard to see how anyone who wants to deny the TC this status as a community will be able to 'rubbish' the EU in the way they have rubbished the UN attempt.

That's my 2pence worth anyway.

According to the news of Kibris Gazetesi(A North Cyprus daily), the source of the news is CYBC.

The ones who are preparing a new solution plan as an alternative to Annan Plan was not commissioned by any official unit of EU. They are a group of constitution experts who live in any of the EU countries.

According to the report of Kibris Gazetesi, a German constitution expert Vilder Oberdorfer leading this project with a group of law experts. Vilder Oberdorfer(Most probably a client of Christian Democrats) had stated that Anan plan was a law scandal. He had added that the solution should be based on a strong, centralised federal state structure besides democrasy and human rights; not the particular circumstances of the Island. Vilder Oberdorfer further stated that the plan would have been completed in February then presented to EU parliament and EU commission. Besides the plan would be sent to all relevant parties.

On the other hand GC FM Iakovu, in his statement today said that; "no noteworthy developments are expected in the next 6 months." According to some other GC sources GC side work on to set their red lines out. According to the reports of GC sources GC side expect a solution in 2008.

It seems to me that a big uproar will be made among all relevant parties...

I am sceptical, that's all!!!

My belief is that, EU will not be willing to bend its laws enough to satisfy TCs demands in the solution. So my belief is that in that case, the solution will be rejected in the north.

OF course if I am worng, and there is a balanced solution from EU, with substantial safeguards for TCs then I do not see any reason that it will be rejected.

Have a great day,

Insan, what you say is absolutely correct, as far as the reports go. I only have one point: Iakovou did say what you attribute to him, but my impression is that his response was to the question of whether he expects any initiative by the UN. I don't know if he evaded the question based on this tiny point, but, seeing as how the government insists on being so quiet about their decisions and what's going on, I personally would not rule it out.[/b]

Yep. Jimmy, these are the visible part of the iceberg. Who knows what goes behind the scenes.
