how much and where to get hedges for yard of house??

Postby careylynn » Wed Feb 28, 2007 11:24 am

My husband and i found a house we love in nicosia but before moving in we want the landlord to put up some very tall bushes/hedges (say 7+feet) I need to find out how much this would cost him...

does anyone have any idea how much or where i could ask how much?

Thank you very much!!!

To buy 2 m ++ hedge plants would be very expensive and not satisfactory. The shape of the plants grown individually will be wrong for a hedge and you will get unsightly gaps. I bought some 20 cm high hedging, which grew to 2 m ++ in about 3 years, but they require lots of water (beware rationing) and fertiliser to grow fast and furious. They are planted 30 cm apart.

It might be cheaper to get some inexpensive chain link and plant fast growing climbers like jasmine or solandra.

One of the best ways is to have large metal framed panels that you can slot into posts which should be set into concrete for strength. The idea is similar to how they put up wood panel fences in the UK. I dont know the cost over there as I live in the North. Tess

We had to put up fencing to keep the goats out.

The plot is 1,300m² and the cheapest quote for wooden fencing was about £3,500.

I did the whole thing myself with chain-link fencing for about CY£500. Looks great now that everything has grown over it too.

All the DIY shops sell the fencing and the posts – get galvanised posts.

There is a large government-run nursery which sell plants at a cheaper rate because they want to encourage people to have green areas in their gardens.

From Nicosia to Limassol Highway, take the first exit to Athalassa and it is on the right-hand side - you can drive in and park.

We bought our hedge from there and it's grown to a good height.

Hope this helps.
