Last night, playing Scrabble, the first 4 letters I pulled out were T R N C.

Is my equipment liable to confiscation?

As for TRNC broadcasters yes they are all illegal because the only authority able to give them a broadcasting license is the Republic of Cyprus. Same goes for GSM phones...

Now I know it's a wind-up. Mobile phones illegal

Amateur radio is not "radio station" it is radio communications. So this person basically communicated via radio to other amateurs all over the world using illegal callsign.

Amateur radio, often called Ham radio, is a hobby and public service enjoyed by about six million people throughout the world. An amateur radio operator, also known as a ham or radio amateur, uses advanced radio equipment to communicate with other radio amateurs for public service, recreation and self-training.

Amateur radio operators have personal wireless communications with friends, family members, and even complete strangers. They support the community with emergency and disaster communications. Increasing a person's knowledge of electronics and radio theory and radio contesting are also popular.

In all countries, amateur radio operators are required to pass an exam displaying knowledge and understanding of key concepts. This practice is in contrast to other personal radio services such as CB radio, Multi-Use Radio Service, or Family Radio Service / PMR446 that are unlicensed and more heavily restricted. In return, hams are granted operating privileges in larger segments of the radio frequency spectrum using a wide variety of communication techniques. Hams are also allowed to use equipment that they have either built themselves or modified. This privilege is unavailable in virtually any other radio service.

Using "HAM" first requires a licence, and secondly, need to use your own "call sign", so that everyone knows, who is who. It is a difficult process to be able to obtain a "HAM" license, although recently, they have decided to drop the "Morse Code" part of the license.

It's a bit like VP being accused of being more than one person, using the same "nickname".

I think 3 years in jail, will be well justified for any VP's imposter's.

Strahd - I don't always agree with you mate, but you're right on this one.

But all these people here are just trying to turn this into yet another "slag each other off" thread. They don't understand what you are trying to say because it is too technical. Perhaps it is because you (accidentally?) posted it in the Cyrpus problem thread. A lot of people on here, their English isn't so good as mine, they translate "Cyprus Problem" as "Let's just attack each other like we usually do".

Don't let yourself get sucked into a pointless argument about it, matey. You've made your point on a public forum which seems to be what you wanted to achieve. Now just let it lie.

No they are not illegal... there can be no TRNC mobile phone operators in the occuppied areas are just part of the large turkish networks. Hence you get the message "Welcome to Turkey" when you roam on them.

Pete you are correct... this is too technical for people to understand clearly. Maybe it was wrong bringing it up in the first place. Radio communications and broadcasting in Cyprus is suffering a lot due to the Cyprus problem... see for example air traffic communications were lives are at stake. At least radio amateur operation with the 1B callsign can be considered as another pirate station with no direct harm.

i still dont see why you are trying to publicly shame the person? are his actions a direct threat to your well being or to someone elses? or are you just really bored? what is the REAL issue here?
