Allow me to reply to your accusations.
pitsilos i'm not going to bother to trawl through the forum to find any examples, but I would not be surprised if - were i the sort of individual to attack you, which I am not - i would end up saying you were also guilty of this sort of bad behaviour which at times borders on the idiotic and pointless.
No need to trawl the forum to find examples. Yes I did use foul language, abused people in kind, but what you fail to see, since then the admin has specifacally said stop or you get banned. Why then some members take it upon themselves to contunue? Should they go unpunished? Admin posted a couple of days ago and since then i refrained from using obsenities while others ignored the warning. Should they go unpunished? So in short your first post is it self idiotic and pointless.
Devil was not proposing to temporarily suspend the whole forum, just the cyprus problem section and to rule that no-one should use any other section to publicise any cyprus problem type issues (and presumably, that any attempt to do so should lead to immediate deletion of the post and/or a ban).
Why should a few spoil the experience of others when the admin laid down the law a couple of days ago? Stop it or you get banned without a warning. Are we here to reward the rule breakers? why introduce rules that can harm the forum rather than bitting the bullet and ban foul mouth members? Unless of cource you get off with obsenities and I am not saying you do, I am generalizing here.
As for swearing, I do not think it should necessarily be banned because a) it is so difficult to police and b) any minors viewing this site could easily be exposed to this sort of language elsewhere on the internet. And it is easily circumnavigated, for example if I want to I can call you a tw&t and we all know what I have said but i did not use a swear word.
So let me get this straight, you condone swearing?, as per your first sentence because.
1/ difficult to police....give me a break please. how difficult is it to police when its in black and white?
2/Minors are exposed to it anyway....does that mean we should condone it? how about drugs, porngraphy, etc. I am sure since the invention of the internet everything is at your disposal. does that mean we sould start posting pornographic material because kids are gonna see it anyway mentality? where do you draw the line Mr Pete?
btw there are filters you can install that take out the swear words with xxxx, etc. just in case you and devil are not aware. Me too was a mod at the legendary waff and we had tools at our disposal.
I have to say, people on this forum get away with an awful lot which would not be tolerated on other forums. This may be because the Admin is trying to encourage free discussion and treat us all like adults. But a number of members totally abuse this privilege.
Getting away with a lot Mr Pete? You just told us that swearing should not be banned coz of a couple of excuses you gave and I am saying it should be outlawed. Let me ask you this, was I wrong to report vips for swearing? because in one instance you say people get away with a lot in this forum and on the other hand you saying lets swear because of the excuses you gave above. So I will ask you again what's it going to be? you want to see foul mouth swearing, such as you mum has been sucking turkish soldiers cock? or no swearing? I prefer the latter and I hope you do to. Now how do you police this? By having a report button so we can report it the offending post to the /mod/admin for immediate action and I mena to see action, another little usefull tool may I add. The problem is that the Admin and moderators are only humans and presumably are not paid directly for their work on this forum, so are not able to police it to the extent they might like. Also, when a forum starts getting heavy handed it can get too bureaucratic at times. Devil you probably appreciate that from the fact you administrate another forum yourself?
Mr Pete ever thought the members are also here to endorse the rules by reporting them, rather than waiting for the admin/mod to read every post to see what the hell is going on? I am sure our very good friend vips is an expert at this.
As I said why not have,
1/ more than 1 mod in a heated forum, and I mean active mods?
2/ A reporting button so the offensive post gets reported directly
3/ A filter that cuts out obsenities
But in your haste to critisize you ommited to mention such solutions. You rather go down the track of rewarding foul mouth members because as you said too difficult to police. Well done Mr Pete, try and reward the aggressor and spoil the fun for others. Have you and devil have any more briliant suggestions?
Anyway mr. pitsilos, what a shame that it would appear you decided to use this thread to attack other forum members - i.e viewpoint - it certainly would appear to readers that this was a thinly veiled attempt to promote your own, some would say, corrupt agenda.
