Relinquishing statehood for authority status

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Relinquishing statehood for authority status

Postby Zeybek » Fri Jan 07, 2005 4:30 pm

Hello, I am new to this discussion board. Both my parents are from Turkish-Cypriots from Baf, Cyprus, but i was reared in Durban, South Africa.

I was wondering after reading all these ideas put forth by fellow t/cs, would the TRNC still have an embargo if they called themselves the t/c authority?

by relinquishing statehood I think that maybe we could have direct trade and flights, and we will be more of a state. We can still have our parliament, flag, etc but minus the sanctions. We wont need the EU then, nor the Annan Plan. Its only an idea.

Well, maybe, but... is that what you want? I mean, is that all there is to it? If I didn't think it would work against the solution efforts, in the sense that it would remove any real motive for TCs and Turkey to help in a solution, I'd be all for it. But the embargo, coupled with the enormous pressure that Papadopoulos has been facing for the last year or so, which has brought him in head-to-head collision with the freakin' Secretary General (!!!) and got the RoC isolated internationally, are the two only things, right now, that allow us to remain hopeful.

I think both should be maintained.

Oh, and welcome aboard :D
