Question for the Partitionist...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby pitsilos » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:37 pm

ok kikapu, i respect your view even though i don't agree with it.

i never insulted his wife and never meant to.

the joke is on vips, plural, they thought, because the wifes had twins they are too stupid to realise they are the fathers. he thought that it takes 2 men in order to have twins. now how is that insulting his wife? everyone knows twins don't come from 2 imen, with 2 different sperms

but here we go

Vips, plural, i apologise for insulting your wifes, but the stupidity is on you, vips, plural, either way you look at it for thinking along these lines

Kikapu
That's good news VP, that the TC's are having a good quality of life in the "TRNC", so I guess the "level playing field" has now been achieved, so the next thing to do now, is to form the Unification, as per "your call", don't you think.?

Good is right but it could be excellent and to achieve that then we need a level playing field to be equals and have the same benefits as everyone else. We have come to this point despite GC hindrance and I am sure you can work out what that hindrance breeds. In order to create a level playing field the side with more advantages will have to give more its only logical, you cannot expect the side with less to go first, don't you think?

Can you do me a great favor and argue one thing pro TCs....where you feel we are doing the right thing.

Observer, all the factors you have mentioned, apart from selling land for cheap are a reality thanks to the RoC which some TCs are too quick to blame for the economic situation in the north. It is thanks to GCs that the economy in the north is expanding at the moment and this is natural, as the RoC has long declared that is prepared to help the TCs get out of the economic deadlock utilising any way that is possible without recognising the regime in the north. GCs visit the north in their thousands everyday, thousands of TCs work in the south, there are no obstacles put on foreign tourists that want to visit the north through the legal ports and there is the greenline trade agreement that still needs to expand.

If you believe this, fine.

Through my eyes the reverse is true. Until the gates were first opened there were penalties about anyone staying too long in the North. GCs blocked people coming South from the North until the EU made them allow EU citizens pass. Tour buses, taxis and hire cars registered in the North are still not allowed through, I believe, although those in the South are allowed North. The GC government make noises almost every day about spending money in 'the occupied territories' and now have let everyone know that they are examining credit card records to frighten people off spending money. In the EU they make every effort to stop aid to the North.

This is not only my view; read the international press.

I think you are a victim of the same propaganda that vp is spreading observer. The RoC has never prevented any TC from coming to the south even before the opening of the gates. It was the regime in the north that prevented any communication between the people. As for the RoC setting restriction on how long GCs spent in the north that was never the case, although there have been some nationalistic voices raising concern at the beginning. I think it was the trnc regime that set the 3 nights stay quota, correct me if wrong. And by the way it was not the EU that made them to allow EU citizens pass, it was the RoC that proposed the whole package for the GreenLine trade agreement right after becoming a member of the EU. I accept that if the RoC haven't proposed that it would have been contradictory to the fact that the EU accepted the island as a whole in the EU.
Now as for the taxis, buses etc, this is professional activity and as such there are bound to be some problems as to how this activity can be carried out. I think that at the moment this applies to goods vehicles that can move goods from north to south and vice versa. As for the taxis and buses this is a completely different story as at the moment there is no framework as to how this proffessional activity can be carried. There are issues regarding taxation, licensing and issues that need to be resolved with the trade unions. I think a first good step is for the trade unions to meet and try to find a solution which can then be proposed to the RoC.
As for the credit card records that a ridiculus statement to make. As in every european country, in the RoC apply the same rules regarding the protection of personal data, and credit card statements are considered part of personal data. The only way to check this data is to obtain a warrant from the attorney general and we all know how difficult this is.

I know my post had the feel of being disingenuous and not sincere and filled with sarcasm, but I meant what I said, that I'm glad that the TC's were doing good, and to reach the excellent quality of life, more needs to be done, of course. We all know, that the RoC is not going to make it easy for us, if they think / believe, that once the paying field has been leveled to equal ratings, that we will not just walk away from ever forming a united Cyprus.

Perhaps, in order to win RoC's trust and vice versa, is for us to agree on, "we'll do this, and you will do that, then after a while we will do that and then you can do this" with the RoC, as to continually keep the ball rolling towards the "goal line", where both sides are on equal basis. The problems that I see, is both sides are waiting for the other to give it all first, and then maybe, maybe, then the other would give some back.

That's a plan, that will go, nowhere fast.

I luv it when I am out there and am able to get away from all this crap from the Greek side, when you are in the TRNC people just get on with their lives, unlike down south where they spend every minute of every day looking for ways to fcuk up the people of the TRNC which they will NEVER ever succeed in.

And don’t forget the 259 million euros from the EU will help to raise the peoples living standards higher, the people of the TRNC have been suffering for a very long time now, finally things are starting to change, it wont happen overnight, but at last things are moving in the right direction, much to your (Greek Cyprus) efforts to keep the people in isolation.

Paul from what you and VP are saying about the trnc standards of leaving it seems that you are on par with the south in terms of quality of life. So what's all this thing about isolation, embargoes etc? When refering to the 259million from EU have in mind that these money was what the EU has set aside as a first funding package for Cyprus in case that the anan plan was accepted. After the RoC entering the EU, the government proposed the EU to give this funding to the TCs instead in order to be used on infrastrure projects in the north on the term that none of this infructure was to be built on GC land. Talt and Turkey fearsily opposed the move at the begining asking for this funding to be put in a package that would include direct flights. As a result half of the money where almost lost last summer as these fell in the previous budget. The RoC insisted on separating the two issues and that the whole amount was given, something that Talat was forced to accept at the end. It is hard that the EU and the RoC insisting you take the money and you denying it under the argument of severe economic situation and "isolation" isn't it?

hes not referring to TCs hes referring to EU nationals and Gcs who flew in via Ercan, do you remember the court case you had to lose due to EU laws on freedom of movement.

And by the way it was not the EU that made them to allow EU citizens pass, it was the RoC that proposed the whole package for the GreenLine trade agreement right after becoming a member of the EU. This was purely for EU regulations and adaptation as it is the "RoC" that cliams to represent the whole islandi catering for just the south would not have boded well with GC claims. So it was more obligatory than willing.
