Will TCs adopt the Euro?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Pyrpolizer » Tue Feb 20, 2007 2:16 pm

Shah,

I already said the prehistoric idol although it is ugly it really passes a humane message i.e a human wearing a neclace of another human. I am sure when you said you liked it you refer to that.

On the other hand each and everyone who looks at it for the first time ( without having a microscope to check it closely) sees a Christian Cross. That is a provocation against our TC brothers and I am very very disappointed not even one GC supported me on this claim in this forum. And now I see even you a TC aligning with the view of the GCs.
Are we going to have an intrepreter explaining each person who sees the CY Euro that "hey thats not a cross thats something else?"

NO THE CYPRIOT EURO IS NOT RIGHT! IT SENDS ANOTHER NEGATIVE MESSAGE TO OUR TC BROTHERS.

I will personally try to protest to the European Central asking them to reject it. All those who support me you are free to do the same.

Oh, the Bank notes as Cypez said are common all over Europe, so who cares about them?

Cypriots should care as the island of Cyprus is not shown on them. No problem with N/S divide as no borders are shown on them (I think - don't have one to hand). So you might like to mention this fact too in your letter to the Commissioners.

well the idea of a prehistoric symbol to represent Cyprus is still good i think, but yeah, they could have chosen something less "christian-like", on the other hand as much as people will think its a cross and a christian symbol at first, if they research they will all find that it is anything but christian, but i do aggree with you, 5000 year old history and that was the only thing they could find out of the billions of different symbols that probably were created in that time, and it looks like a cross, it is a bit provocative...plus maybe its my ignorance on the matter but i never knew that this symbols was popularly related with Cyprus worldwide, infact i had never seen it before untill this thread, so if that is the case then thats another reason to NOT choose it...

but hey, its not like its going to be MY coin anytime soon anyways

I think I know the perfect amblem to represent Cyprus on the Euro coins:

Two He-goats with locked horns facing each other on a log serving as a bridge over an abyss...

Now who can object to that?

What would it have taken to picl,k something neutral and not so in your face I am a disguised cross in your face type of symbol.

What you GCs do Lena are calculated and measure acts of provocation no more no less, its just that you cannot see it as you are not on this side of the fence.

Is the star symbol of TC? OR is it a symbol of Turkey flag??
I told you you have to find something to argue about! IT IS NOT A CROSS!!! If you open your hands they will say that you are Jesus??? Come on VP...I thought you was an adult!!!

The crescent moon and star is a potent symbol in all countries with an islamic tradition, just as the cross is in all countries with a christian tradition.

Bad choice of symbol. Hope it was done thoughtlessly.

Back to the original question - will TCs use the Euro.

TCs will continue to use the YTL first, because Turkey is the country we do most trade with - all trade if GCs have their way.

i think TCs will use anything that they can get their hands on, i remember when i was younger in Lefke we had Peso equivelant of all the prices in the shops, for the Argentinian UN soldiers that lived around there..
