Can I call you "Salatalik" instead????

Bir, you know this word is "Very Turkish" from the mainland.

Does that mean, we have already been "assimilated".

Isn't 'hiyar' a very turkish word aswell.Kemal Sunal used the term 'hiyar oglu hiyar'in almost all his films.God rest his soul.Somebudy correct me if Im wrong but the greek word is anguri(small cucumber).

Does any know if I can change my user name but keep my posts?

I believe main land Turks do not like to use the word "Hiyar" (cucumber), because it is seen as a sexual object, and when in an argument, it is often mentioned about "Cocks & Hiyars", by the some people, men or women, so they prefer to use the word "Salatalik". I believe you would get a funny look in Turkey, if you mention "Hiyar".

Of course, in Cyprus, it would also have the same "double meaning", but us TC's, did not care. I bet that word is no longer used in the "TRNC", at least, not as common as it use to be, but I could be wrong.

Sorry "Hiyar Herif", but then again, you may also become very popular, amongst certain group of people

I believe that is Caciki in Greek.Probably spelled Dzadziki or something like. I propose we all call him Caciki from now on...

As I said in my previous post, as to "Hiyar" (cucumber) having a "double meaning, and the fact Kemal Sunal use the term, "Hiyar oglu Hiyar", since most, if not all of his films were "slap stick funny", goes to show, he was not talking about "cucumbers", when he was saying "hiyar oglu hiyar". ( son of a cucumber)

Yumm..Cacik is one of my favourite foods.
But hiyar/angouri has a special place in my like.I'll tell you.
When my grandfather was on his death bed,most of his children were by his bedside.Just before he died he opened his eyes and summoned them to come closer.They all rushed towards the bed hoping for some last minute advice from the great Patriac.He looked at them closely one by one and said:"Hiyar Angouri".Those were his famous last words...

I believe Cacik is called statsiki (but I guess you could use Z's) in Greek or talatouri as we call it in Cyprus, and as you say it is some tasty stuff...Mmmmm...

Although as far as I know we don't use Garlic, we use cucumber, yoghurt and mint...(I really hope I'm talking about the right thing and I haven't misunderstood... )

And Birkibrisli, your Grandfather sounds like he was a bit of a legend...

Dzadziki/caciki is how the mainland Greeks call it...

Well,that settles it for me.We'll call Hiyar herif,Talaturi,unless he objects to it strongly of course.
By the way ,Pyro gardas,we also use the word Talatur for caciki,but I am not sure if it is Cyprus- wide or just us ,the Chosen people from Paphos

bir my parents also call it talaturi. tzatziki is what the katsikokleftes call it.
