"Back in 2002, the then Attorney-general ordered three criminal investigations relating to the activities of eight offshore companies (known as the Milosevic companies), which were set up, controlled and managed by the Tassos Papadopoulos Law Office. Papadopoulos said, in a newspaper interview subsequently, that companies were set up in order to get round the sanctions imposed on Yugoslavia by UN Security Council. One of the investigations was directed against his main associates and involved alleged offences which carried long prison sentences, including forgery, obstructing justice, misleading the court and use of false documents.
Almost three years have passed since then. These cases have been covered up for reasons that even a five-year-old could guess. I have raised this issue many times. Neither the president, nor the Attorney-general ever dared to answer a very simple question: why were investigations stopped and these cases covered up? By the same logic that the president used in asking journalists if they were above the law, they – if we had journalists and not sycophants – could re-phrase the question: was the president above the law, they could ask".
