"Back in 2002, the then Attorney-general ordered three criminal investigations relating to the activities of eight offshore companies (known as the Milosevic companies), which were set up, controlled and managed by the Tassos Papadopoulos Law Office. Papadopoulos said, in a newspaper interview subsequently, that companies were set up in order to get round the sanctions imposed on Yugoslavia by UN Security Council. One of the investigations was directed against his main associates and involved alleged offences which carried long prison sentences, including forgery, obstructing justice, misleading the court and use of false documents.

Almost three years have passed since then. These cases have been covered up for reasons that even a five-year-old could guess. I have raised this issue many times. Neither the president, nor the Attorney-general ever dared to answer a very simple question: why were investigations stopped and these cases covered up? By the same logic that the president used in asking journalists if they were above the law, they – if we had journalists and not sycophants – could re-phrase the question: was the president above the law, they could ask".

The above is an exceprt from Loucas charalampous article in today's "Politis".

That is way too much beyond reason. It is just one more nasty lie.
Since when a law office whose only responsibility is to register the companies in the company registrar and perhaps provide also legal advice, has also become a management company and controlled and managed Milocevic companies and their activities?

So why the 'disapearance' of the three criminal investigations? If there has been no wrong doing then would it not better to have this proved publicaly in open court?

Is it true that Papadopoulos said, in a newspaper interview , that companies were set up in order to get round the sanctions imposed on Yugoslavia by UN Security Council, as the article claims? If so where does that leave his rhetoric about Turkey ignoring UN resolutions?

The plan does make provisions for the protection of the Turkish community. What is your f*cking problem?

This forum is becoming more of a joke everyday. Akritas plan aimed to remove everything that the TCs gained in 1960...and you're telling me that I should feel protected by the provisions of the Akritas plan? Get f*cking real here for God's sake.

Metecyp, on the contrary: The fact that views of history that challenge "the usual narrative" are being put forward, is part of this forum's strength. For instance, TCs challenge GCs with a different view of the 1974 events, why shouldn't the GCs challenge TCs with a different view of the 1963 events? If we ever manage to achieve a common understanding of our history - through dialogue - this will be a great step towards achieving a solution.

I am not saying I agree with AA's perspective on the Akritas Plan - I never studied it in detail - but it is a viewpoint worth exploring, even if only to refute it.

Beyond the actual details of the Akritas Plan, I know that the majority of GCs in the 1960s believed that the TCs should be a minority with its rights protected in a united Greece-Cyprus, while a small terrorist minority believed in the extermination or expulsion of the TCs.

I also know that most GCs nowadays are glad that union with Greece never took place, seeing the sorry economic state of Greek provinces such as Crete, Macedonia, the Pelloponese etc. Greece is like a "black hole" sucking everything towards the (corrupt and wasteful) centre at Athens.

This is not true. Greece economy is doing well for the past 7 or 8 years. One of the main reason for this is Greece is increasingly beginning to 'own' the Balkans, investing more and more money into Balkans. The reason greece allows so many albanabarians is is because they send money back to Albania their families which constitutes lots of money in the albanian economy, and therefore Finance Ministry controls the flow of this money can effectively destroy albanian economy if we want to

Well as for Mr. Papadopoulos I kinda like him. He seems an honest man with balanced opinions.

He has also put in place various measures to support TC, without always a responce/acceptance from the other side.

I think you are wrong saying that he hates anyone, I think that he cares for all the people of Cyprus.

That is not a view shared by TC or many outside of Cyprus either in my estimation. Here are a few articles / profiles from when he was elected from the international press

Any examples?

Again not a view shared by most TC. He was a senior figure in EOKA, an author of the Akritas plan and personaly and directly imeshed in the GC leadership in the period 63-74 when TC suffered much at the hands of GC and their leadership. TC are extremely wary of this man because of his history. He also recently claimed that not a single TC was killed by GC in the period 63-74. This also makes TC doubt his sincerity.

These measures - the bulk of which relate to the border and most were imposed on the RoC by Eu entry. How you can then claim there was no recipricocity I do not know. How can you claim the opening of border crossing as a goodwill act on the part of RoC with no recipricocity from the TRNC?

Would you trust any press that did not support and reinforce your pre convied notions of what is 'true' or not?

Criminal investigations are just that "investigations" To go to court and be judged the Attorney General must conclude that there is a case and set the charges. You cannot bring someone before the court without knowing what he is accused for.Suspicion alone is not a reason.
The courts do not invastigate, the courts judge. And the courts do not just go along judging like that. They first check if the charges against the defendent are adequately supported or not. If not they simply drop the case.

I would say the reporter should ask his questions directly to the Attorney General who is an independent Authority not linked with ny other authority in Government. For your information the previous Attorney General was always in conflict with Papadopoulos, and I am sure he would not hesitate nail him at all.He even nailed one of Papadopoulos Ministers and forced her to resign. One year after the Supreme Court found her innocent the AG resigned!!! Notice however the AGs are not oblidged to give any explanation to anyone for their actions, moreover to journalists

I think however the Attorney General (AG) who ordered this investogation in 2002 was the one before the previous one i.e Markides a strong supporter of the Anan Plan and the right hand of Klerides. If there was in fact a case against Papadopoulos do you think they would let it pass and allow Papadopoulos become President running against Klerides?.
