Cafe Prices

Postby Sotos » Fri Feb 16, 2007 6:50 am

I don't go to cafe often but whenever I go I notice how expensive they are. 2.50-3 pounds for a coffee? WTF? And it is not for their great service either. Starbucks for example is self service.

I've got to ask why they are so busy. Is it people feel the need to be seen in an expensive coffee shop. If people boycotted them because of price they would either have to reduce the price or close!

I prefer a metrio at the lowest dive for £0.40, or even £0.30 if I'm lucky. It's usually better coffee. I've only been in a Starbucks once, in Seattle, when I was ripped off $3.00 for what was purported to be an espresso but was really a ristretto made from the floor sweepings of a rat-infested coffee roaster's with, of all things, a twist of lemon peel in it. It was unspeakably horrible for someone who enjoys true Italian coffee and other real coffees. I would rather drink Nescafé, and that's saying something (it must be at least 20 years since I was last forced to drink one).

Twinkle, that is still £1:50 /hour and most Cypriots earn not much more than that! Add the endless supply of cigarettes and they have nothing left!

Ahhh, but they are SEEN. To be seen in a trendy cafe is as good as having the newest Fendi handbag!!!

I'll take your word for it. Me personally I don't worry about things like who sees me where. Prefer a beer anyway!

Me and the wife often stop at our local coffee shop in the centre of Yerosqipou for 2 big mugs of coffee/tea with biscuits for only £1.50/75c each or 2 cups plus biscuits for £1.00/50c each !!!!
