What you see below is one of hundreds of emails that I receive on my business email account daily. as I write this post now I have received a further 7. This has been going on for about 6 months.

Is there an organisation I can complain to? Can I hire a computer detective to help me (if they exist)? It is really frustrating. There are seven of us in my office and all we do during the day is delete this crap. The emails are coming with no subject and from thousands of different addresses.

I'm desperate to find the source of these emails. I need to know who is doing this and put an end to it all. This has honestly affected our work environment and adds to what is already a stressful job

If anybody can help please contact me. I'm willing to pay for this service.

mrfromng, considering the content of the above, I would imagine that they stem from America, possibly another attack, directed at our moral standards which they probably envy and so seek to drag us down with them, that way, they will not appear so decadent.

Can you not 'Block' them ?, surely if you highlight them in your system it should solve the problem.

Welcome to the world of spam mrfromng! It doesn't take much. All is needed is that you or somebody else to post your email address online. Then some email harvester will pick it up and then you are screwed! There are spam protection programs that can block those emails from the server before you get them or filter them out on your computer. But the more strict the spam protection is the more the chances that you will miss good emails too! There is no perfect solution to fight spam

Can't you block them. Block all emails with the word "sex" in it for instance. Your security progs should be able to do this.

mrfromng, there are some steps which could help you:

1) split the mails stream up from known and unknown senders
2) send/recive only plain text messages, filtered others
3) images, exe, doc only in rar/zip files, filtered others
4) try do not leave your email in form [email protected] in an emergence camouflage it like "aaaaa at bbbbb dot ccc" or something like that (it doesn't help much but better than nothing)
5) mail server + amavis + spamassassin + procmail

and final and most important that to give money to your sysadmin as you promised

I've tried many tens of ways to handle spam. For the past three years, I have been using the ONLY one that I've found effective and reliable. However, it does more than just handle spam, it can also sort all your mail into different categories, so that your client software (I use Thunderbird, but that is not material) can automatically put them into different mailboxes, for example, you may wish to have sorting into personal, work, hobby, customers, netlists or whatever (I have 10 such boxes but you can have just 2, such as spam and ham, or 30 or more). Effectiveness? I'm currently running at 99.73% correct classification of all mailboxes with 99.91% correct spam identification (including the jpg hump and dump spams and counting both false positives and negatives) over a total of 57,383 messages since I last reset the statistics about a year ago. The downside? It requires a disciplined training approach over the first week or two.
