Is that because of natural causes? That is, are a lot of the population from the south now dead? Or were the majority in the North anyway? It is very interesting.
But for many this does not detract from what they see as the facts on the ground. At the weekend prominent Turkish Cypriot journalist Metin Munir – bemoaning the fact that much of the north, has come to resemble the less attractive parts of Turkey – wrote: “The streets of Kyrenia are packed with unshaven men fiddling with worry beads, beggars and women selling tissues”.

Journalist Sener Levent wrote on Tuesday that if a foreign journalist was to ask him what the future held for Cyprus he would tell them to “go and ask someone from Turkey, as it is they who decide what goes on here”.
Speaks for itself.

Further, this "consensus" (if it is accurate) actually shows that there are almost 142,000 Turkish settlers in the North, citizens of the 'TRNC' or not. So this is certainly no suprise to me, and is absolutely no comfort.

By the way, the Title of the above article is "Indigenous Turkish Cypriots just over half north’s population."

Just over half? :o This shows the state of the north. It will not be long before they are less than half; and then what? You're a minority "in your own country again."

out of an overall population of 256,000, just over 178,000 were ‘TRNC’ citizens and that 120,000 were of full Turkish Cypriot parentage, with another 12,000 claiming one Turkish Cypriot parent.

so out of an overall population in the north of 256,000 just 120,000 were TC's.
Thats 46% of the population VP. Congrats you've just admitted to being a minority.

VP,

I swear I read this report 3 times and no where did I see anything about the 18% being born in the "South". I got even more confused, after "tessintrnc" made her post, so I read it again, to see what she saw, that I missed, and again, nothing.

So, what is this 18% all about.??

1. Is this the number of TC's living in the "TRNC" now, that were born, in the RoC area.?
2. If so, what is your point.? They were born in Cyprus where there were NO "North" and "South" at the time.
3. Is it possible, that majority that were born in the "South" prior to 1974, have left the Country, but we are still Cypriots from the "South".
4. The report failed to show the 40,000 Turkish troops, as non Turkish Cypriots.
5. The real number of Turkish Cypriots, according to the report, is 120,000 plus the 12,000 kids born to a TC and a settler family, equals to 132,000 "True Turkish Cypriots" now living in the "TRNC" out of 296,000. This does not even include, the families of the Turkish Troops stationed on the island.

That makes the "True TC" population at 44.6% of the overall residence of the "TRNC" not counting the families of the Turkish troops.

Not much to brag about, is it.?

INDIGENOUS Turkish Cypriots number just over half the overall population of the north and represent a 74 per cent majority of ‘TRNC’ citizens, census results revealed yesterday.

Is this guy lieing how did he arrive at the 74% figure? is 74% just over half?
