fanourıo wrote:Can you actually prove that I wrote the post for increasing my status? Do you think my bank account is going to bust with the euros you will have to pay for replying? Who gives a dime about member staus anyway, I just enjoy writing clever or stupid stuff at times and it is up to anyone to join... however it seems that whatever I write gets critisised? This is the standard of this forum: RULE 1: CRITISISE EVERYTHING RULE 2: ALWAYS FOLLOW RULE ONE!! You guys seem not to accept anybody else in this forum and you want people to just read your posts. If the administrator thinks aftrer your complaints that I am wrong they can block me. But if there is one thing the administrators should check is the fact that YOU always crtisise others!!! I wonder what wil happen if someone disgrees or evn critises YOU! Thanks for reading the post anyway, it is just an example of a marketing trick....
Ok, first of all - to clarify - I didn't say you posted to increase your status I was just pointing out the rules on doing such a thing.
Second, it is not true that everything you write gets critiscised! But it is likely that if you write something that people disagree with, then a number of them will point this out to you.
It is an on-line community, and we all have to consider the other members (AND, in my opinion, the non-members i.e the public who read this forum). You must agree that when you write a new thread or post, you can't just say whatever you feel like and do whatever you feel like, you have to respect others. Surely you agree with that? To some extent, there are rules about this as we both found out the other day. But generally, the rules on this particular forum are quite minimal (which is meant as a positive rather than a negative criticism of this forum).
If you post these seemingly pointless or cryptic threads, that appear to almost everyone to serve no purpose, then people ARE going to get fed up and criticise. I think it because you have done a number of these lately - look, I'm not judging you I am just pointing it out - and so people are getting fed up. Why? Simply because many members of this forum will believe their time is precious to them, and they do not want it wasted by having to look through threads which turn out to be about nothing.... they then feel duped, and cheated (I would think).
But also Fanos, I have to say that in my opinion you are not doing yourself any favours. When you first posted here I read your story with interest, and you had a lot of my respect thanks to your experiences and because of your choice of career. And I am sure that was what many members were thinking.
But lately, I think you have been losing a lot of respect from people with your strange posts and your immature actions. I'm sorry, but I am just being honest. I do not think it is fair on yourself to do this, because I think that your reputation is being lowered in the eyes of others on this forum, and I think that is a real shame.
It would also be a shame if you posted something serious, but people no longer took you seriously and ignored you.
For example, the other day you posted something about an appeal for bone marrow doners. This was serious, and sincere, and it deserved a good response from the forum. Fortunately it still got a good response from many.
But you know, I wonder if some people ignored you because they thought you were messing around again? Do you not think that would be a real shame? I think so. And in the future, after yet more of these "odd" posts, this might continue. And that would be a real shame if you had something serious to say or a serious point to be made.
I also think that perhaps you should post some of these more funny posts in the "jokes" section rather than "meet new people". I think members would be more tolerant if you did that.
It is true that none of us are perfect, and I do not pretend to be. I do post quite a lot of humour and funnies, but I think people can generally tell when I am being funny and when I am being serious. I also post a lot of serious things as well - like I am doing at the moment. And I don't do too many (if any) new threads for funnies, apart from in the joke section. So I believe people find me more predicatable and hence tolerate me ok. In fact, a member of this forum (Eliko) did quite an accurate analysis of the way I post on this forum the other day, and I was pleased because he described pretty much what I have just said and that is how I want to be percieved on this forum.
But to me, this forum doesn't matter that much because it isn't the real me. Ok, that isn't quite true.... I am pretty much like this in "real life", but - as with any member - you who read about me only on this forum don't know any background or other details about me. But that's ok, because my identity is pretty much secret to the majority of people on this forum.
But Fanos, you post your contact details and everything here, so your identity is known to all. Which is fine, but that means your reputation is at stake. And I don't know, but I would imagine in your line of work - as in so many lines of work - reputation counts, and people WILL judge you (in part) based on how you behave on here. With you, you are fully identified to us all. And although people maybe shouldn't, they will judge you based on the snippet of you they see here, because people are like that, humans are like that. And hence your reputation is affected by how you behave here, more than most I would say.
I hope you do not think I am attacking you, I am just trying to explain things in a mature way and make you understand what is probably behind some of the posts which appear just to be attacking you for no reason. If you look at the big picture, I think you will understand the situation.
Also I am, of course, not a moderator here and they are not my rules to criticise, but I am just mentioning about the rules and - basically - etiquette, as I interpret these things.
