My guess is £100

My first car cost me £120; I will not bore you with the cars that I have owned but if I look back I am embarrassed by my 'carbon footprint':
1 x 6700cc, 2 x 6000cc, 1 x 5600cc, 1 x 5000cc, 1 x 4600cc, 1 x 4500cc, 1 4200cc and so on :-)

However, I did own a 595cc car, but its contribution to Global Warming was 11,200km (7000 miles) in one week, round a race track - driven by proper (professional) drivers not me!

Happy days, when I was young(er) and foolish(er) :-)

I paid £50 for my 1936 Hillman Minx, but that was a lot of lolly in those days, when the average income was about £350/year and a new Ford Popular cost about £150.

Even as late as 1963, I bought a new Hillman Minx 1600 for only £400 (export model), the version after the one with the curly tail fin. That was when the average salary was ~£1000. Unfortunately, this model was the first of the releases after Chrysler bought out the Rootes Group (Hillman, Humber, Sunbeam, Singer) and it was the first of the crap cars that led the group into bankruptcy, along with the Hillman Imp which was the world's worst car, ever. I had previously a 1957 Minx which was a really great car.

My dream car of the early 1960s was the Jensen FF. FF stood for Ferguson Formula. It was the first car with permanent four-wheel drive and with ABS, yes, over 40 years ago and was considered the safest performance car on the road.

Today, I aspire to a Honda Civic Hybrid and I ordered one several months ago, but it won't be delivered for several months, yet. However, it costs a wee bittie more than my 1936 Hillman Minx!

Right, well over 60. My first full driving licence was a Cypriot one, in 1956: still have it. Sorry, wrong, I had a UK provisional one in 1954.

Nope, I have a wife: she can back-seat (or side-seat) drive as well as anybody and I certainly don't need two such drivers.

Nope! The only antiques here are my wife and yours truly! Anyway, the bottom's out of the antique car market.

Corvair Question

Wow...what a beauty. Mine was red and not a convertible. I loved the stick shift on the dashboard. Ralph Nader would be proud.
