British High Commission

Postby cameron_roxburgh » Mon Feb 12, 2007 3:21 pm

Is it necessary to register with the BHC on taking up residency in Cyprus, along with all the other formalities?

I've been reading their website HERE

Part of the front page is " The Consular Section of the British High Commission is now updating its database of British nationals who are resident in Cyprus. If you are a British national and you have not registered with the British High Commission during 2007, or you have recently changed address, the British High Commission would encourage you to register as soon as possible. Registration forms can be obtained in person from our offices, by telephoning the Consular Section on 22861367/371, or by e-mailing us on: [email protected] or [email protected] . "

Why "would" it encourage people to register??

Thanks

No, it's not necessary to register with the British High Commission when taking up residency here.

I've lived in Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa & the Netherlands - the same system is in place in those countries as well.

British citizens are encouraged to register.

If you're resident in Cyprus, you should be paying income tax to the Cypriot authorities.
