Direct flights - 7000 in favour and only 300 against

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Looks as though it is the "trnc" fumbling in the dark.

Letter sent to UN Secretary General only yesterday, really does make you laugh.

As so many people on this forum like to point out that North Cyprus or the TRNC doesn't exist. CTA is registered in Turkey hence the TC registration and flag. I like the picture though its an old one. CTA doesn't fly the Airbus 310-200 series anymore. Cyprus Airways use too fly this model as well. You mean both the Greeks and Turks have flown the same aircraft type. Oh its too controversial for words.

That's obvious!

CTA has no other choice but to register her aircraft under the Turkish Civil Aviation Department. This is because the "trnc" does not have its own Civil Aviation Authority that can be recognised under the Chicago Convention. Only legitimate states are recognised by ICAO.

As a result CTA would not be allowed to fly into the airspace of a foreign jurisdiction if the aircraft are not legally registered under a recognised authority. Turkey has a recognised authority whilst the "trnc" does not.....

It's like watching a vegetable growing in your allotment.....You are at budding stage re Paphitis.....A few more months and you will be ready for plucking....

Pipe down Zanny. First it was the laxatives overdoses which causes me to melt my mouse scroller whenever you post the Akritas Plan, and now you intend sticking some of my home truths in your pipe and smoking them.

You are so far behind the rest of the debate here Paphitis that it just makes me feel old... 8)

You are like a teenager going out to the city and bright lights for the first time....I am on a high on the fumes of your excitement....Be careful though....There are a lot of bad people out there and drugs.....It could taint you for ever.....

Is that the debate about you TCs fantasising that somehow you will achieve the right of having your own regulatory aviation body and jurisdiction recognised by ICAO which would then allow direct international flights? Too much hashish for you methinks.

Don't be startled by the noise in the sky when it happens Paphitis..... 8)

The noise of numerous international direct flights is something I am accustomed to, and something which will never happen in the "trnc". 8)

Oh. I think that might be one of the subjects being discussed at the solution talks as we speak Paphitis.....Don't hate your president if he makes the sensible choice...

Those flights, if aproved, would come under the jurisdiction of the RoC Civil Aviation Department.

We shall see Paphitis......As I said....Don't be alarmed......

President Christofias has no right to compromise the legitimate sovereignty of Cyprus by legitimising direct flights not under the RoC Civil Aviation Authority's jurisdiction.

Now you are panicking...  Agreements are legitimate Paphitis.....Thats the way it goes.

The reason why you the "trnc" can never have direct flights is the following:

It is not possible to fly directly from the UK to the northern part of Cyprus. Under the terms of the International Convention on Civil Aviation of 1944 (Chicago Convention), flights can only operate legally to the international airports designated by the Republic of Cyprus. There are no such airports in the northern part of Cyprus. Under these circumstances, the UK Government has decided that the approval of direct flights by any airline from the UK to the northern part of Cyprus would be incompatible with the UK's international obligations under the Chicago Convention, and with UK domestic legal obligations.

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-the-fco/ ... pe/cyprus/

Therefore, any direct flights can only occur if the RoC declares ERCAN a legitimate port. That can only happen if ERCAN comes under the RoC Civil Aviation Department's jurisdiction.

I think you will find that if that should happen our flights will no longer be safe. Our planes may fly into mountains. Their record on safety and the investigation of safety issues are not that great, are they?

But then again with the TC safety officers involved, perhaps their safety may rise to the EU level. Who knows?

The laws and regulations can be and does get changed/ammended to suit the big boys and a handful of GC/Greeks are not going to step them doing what they want.

The signs are there, but you can only see them if you want to. I guess the financiers of EU bought all the sites because direct flights will never happen, after all we don't need them, they are surplus to our requirements. Its a matter of time before we have direct flights. Fact.

Does anyone know what the odds are for direct flights to Ercan is? ( with or without an agreement)

If it is never, I would like to see some odds of million to one. How about it?
Please let us know which bookies are offering what odds?
We may as well make some money out of it.

Let us know when somebody actually travels on a pre-advertised scheduled non-stop (direct just means you don't change planes, but can stop somewhere) flight between Tymbou and an EU member airport.

I won't hold my breath!

Unfortunately for you, Turkish Cypriots or the "TRNC" are not considered "big boys" and after 35 years I thought you would've realized that by now.
