David.

Not personal experience as I changed my locks within the first couple of days of taking over the property ( 14 years ago ) but experience of a couple of friends and a neighbour certainly convinced me that I was right to change the locks .

Such thing as money going missing ~ not a lot but enough to make you wonder how much you actually left in the flat ~ things obviously moved and signs of occupation whilst the owners were in the UK and the real beauty when a friend arrived in his flat early one morning to find a Eastern European girl sleeping in their bed ~ strangely she was on her own ~ she claimed that she had paid rent to be there but couldn't tell my friend who she got the key from.

When you think how many people have had access to your keys during the later stages of the build and how many opportunities there have been for one of those ( often poorly paid ) workers to get another key cut it doesn't bear thinking about the potential risks involved.

There was a instance of one worker from a developers office in paralimni who was using clients flats to entertain his Russian girlfriends .

After about a year I fitted a chub mortise lock to my property much to the amusement of my Cypriot neighbours ~ during the last few years I've fitted mortise locks to most of my neighbours doors

Get the locks changed ASAP

Sounds like a sound investment alone in changing the locks. Can anybody recommend a good honest locksmith as I am hopeless at D.I.Y. things.

I think it will be an interesting meeting with Interlink when we arrive!!

The problem we would have is that the front doors are so secure it might not be so easy to change the locks. Im not an expert myself but the front doors have bolts going through them, top, side and bottom. It might be a case of adding a lock rather than changing a lock.

Kate & Lee when did you say you were going out there?

Actually Bill how much would you charge if you have fitted some mortice locks to neighbours properties.

Would not like to arrive one day and find that our property had been used by others.

Just a thought, do each of the properties have an electric meter like the UK as one thing you could do was take meter readings to possibly cover yourselves in case the unfortunate happens.

Hi

I think they do Kate yes. The bit about the doors is correct they are very secure locks and doors and i'm not sure if it possible to add another lock to them. You can probably change the locks by contacting the door manufacturer. You will see when you get there. When you are over please can you keep us all informed of whats going on. There is an internet cafe in the village which costs about 2 euros per hour.

I'm sorry but I've got to ask a silly question here ~~ if the place wasn't as specified why did you or are you going to accept delivery ~ I hope you have kept a reasonable sum of money back in case you are in any dispute with the builder.

Lets put it this way if you ordered a new car and specified for it to be blue would you take delivery if a red car was delivered .

As for the other problems I wouldn't be at all surprised if the lawyer didn't shrug his / her shoulders and say he can't do anything OR if the lawyer isn't related to the builder they will charge a small fortune to take him to court which will take years with little chance of success ~ I'd guess on the second option.

Kate will have to visit the internet cafe as I will be too busy guarding the doors.

Will keep you all posted on what is happening when we get out there. I just hope that we are just being a bit too over cautious on the lock situation, especially after us all waiting so long for it to finally be ready.
