Cannot rely on political solution alone...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Cannot rely on political solution alone...

Postby Alasya » Thu Jan 06, 2005 7:43 pm

I sense from the tone of the messages I have read on this forum that it would take more than a political solution to solve the Cyprus problem. We cannot rely on a political solution to solve the Cyprus problem, we need reconciliation as well.

Rather than arguing about how evil Papadopoulos is or how fat Denktas is, and waiting for them to make the move, we should ask ourselves, What can ordinary people do without their leaders to solve the Cyprus problem?

Well said Alasya. So what can people of Cyprus do without their leaders? Any suggestions by you?

For example I could divorce my wife and get marry with a GC women for the sake of co-existence of two communities. Could a GC man accept to have his bulluk cut and get marry with a TC women for the sake of co-existence of two Cypriots?

We could start with inter-communal activities for all school children, at the moment only a small minority of Cypriot children have the opportunity to meet with members of the other side. We could set up a Cyprus newspaper in both languages, written by both community youth. We could arrange book review evenings, language classes, pub crawls (or in Cyprus` case, cafe crawls), set-up a Cyprus personals agency (why not?), and mixed football clubs.

Theres so much more we could do!

I am not suggesting anybody has their bulluk cut, theres no need to go to that extreme, theres no need to be crude, hic yakismadim! :(

Nice suggestions you've made Alasya. I wish I had sufficient finance to organize such things... Though there are so many wealthy Cypriots who can afford to organize such things but they calculate how much more they can multiply their wealth instead of giving a hand for bi-communal activities. Anyway US and EU give million of dollars, there's no need for Cypriots to financially participate for such bi-communal projects...

And sorry about that bul*** thing. I forgot to use asteriks. And you know there's no English equivalent of that word(Sunnet).

"Hiç yakismadim" should be "Hic yakistiramadim". (Just wanted to correct it.)

how about organizing wife swapping parties, they would only last a few hours at most, and you wont have to get un-married and married and so on and so forth...

Oh and its cheaper!

Now you extremely exagearrated the issue KELEBEK. I really believe that inter-marriages would help to integrate two communities.

tsk tsk, excuses ...

Insan, if you are bored of your wife, why don't you just come out and say it openly ? ...

:D :D :D

(Oh, by the way, you wrote "GC women" instead of "GC woman" ... is that a "Freudian Slip"?) :D

No I'm serious Alexandros. I love my wife but for the sake of peaceful coexistence of two communities I could divorce my wife and get marry with a GC women. As I said I believe tthat the inter-marriages would be one of the most encouraging activity for rapproachment of two communities. I asked many TC females whether they would prefer to get marry with a GC male with a bul*** haven't had cut; they all told me: "No!"

To be frank, I dont understand why there are no organized inter-communal wife-swapping parties and fetish parties on the island.

Insan, I think its less hassle (no visits to the in-laws) and less costly (in terms of presents, dining, going-out, birthdays, wedding) to spend a few hours than to devote your whole life to a G/C girl, unless you are tired of your wife, thats a different matter.
